What's your favorite Warthog and why? I want to know! What Evolution should I cover next?

The warthog is a prime example as to why sometimes stock sound effects are just much more iconic than bespoke recorded sounds which end up sounding more generic ironically

The addition of the overheat mechanic in Halo Reach was added entirely for multiplayer purposes and was indeed a much needed addition given how overpowered the warthog turret was in Halo 3's multiplayer. Being able to spray non stop mobile turret fire could turn some games into an utter bloodbath with very little way to combat it without intense coordination by the opposing team.

one thing has stayed true with the warthog throughout the years: it can fit *anywhere*. no matter how tall, small, wide, tight, or even how it is shaped. It can and WILL fit anywhere.

one of the biggest gripes i have with 343's warthogs is the change from the iconic and futuristic torsion bar suspension to a boring wishbone setup that's seen on cars today. did they forget the games are set 500 years into the future?

I couldn't agree more with the halo 3 topic. It's map design alone was fun af

The self destruct feature in infinite is pretty sad too. The explosion effect are almost nonexistent and they sound very light and don’t sound like an actual vehicle exploding

I'll never understand the hexagon turret being removed. It was so iconic, and changed for the sake of change.

The self destruct mechanic also looks super goofy because they didn't want it blowing up out of nowhere. It kind of takes me out of it when the Warthog starts glowing.

And I don't know what it is with 343's changes to the engine, but it apparently makes explosions way more expensive and they have to be downgraded. Reach, a game that the Series S can probably emulate in 100% software and not the mix of recompilation and emulation they've been using, has better explosion effects.

A fine choice! You should do the ghost next!
I'll admit, I don't like how in Halo 2 anniversary, the M12B was used instead of the original M12

27:17 This was called the Golden Warthog and was a popular Halo 2 speculation within the map Headlong where you can unlock the metal gate to have access to the vehicle. I was amazed that the Devs were able to bring this Hog into H2 Anniversary!~ 😆

You should have mentioned the dramatic change to the suspension system.
They went from a feasible, realistic but very futuristic suspension system CE-Reach, to a generic modern day suspension.

No other warthog can beat the might and power of the king Halo CE Warthog.

There's something really funny about the Gauss canon's power on the wiki. If fired from a warthog, it would send the warthog flying backwards halfway around the globe

I'm surprised you never mentioned the 343 Era feature of being able to control your warthogs spin in mid air.

Another quality of life change that I really appreciated along with the seat swapping.

simply an excellent video.

one issue: you mention that the warthog in halo 4 didn't get much of a redesign, which i think is a mistake

Bungie's Warthog had a unique drivetrain and suspension system, a kind of hybrid between independent suspension and off-road displacement offered by rigid axles. which translates into their particular physiques

If you look in detail every time you jump or lean on the ground, the vertical displacement of its wheels is very large and independent from one another, which gives you those uncontrollable and funny rebounds, it is observed that the wheels move vertically below what would be the chassis

the 343 warthog uses a more conventional system practically of our present, which is independent suspension

In detail in the jumps or inclines, the wheels do not have as much displacement and the vertical displacement is across the width of the warthog, which could translate into greater stability, the work of the suspension in the Forza Horizon games can be seen very well .

sorry for the long comment but the warthog is my favorite halo vehicle and I've always been wondering how bungie's design would work in real life

Slight correction at 3:32 The warthog doesn't explode at all in Halo CE regardless of whether the player dies in it or not. Human vehicle detonation wasn't implemented until Halo 2.

I just started playing Infinite again, and you're spot on with the "buoyancy"/"lightweight", I think the whole thing is too "floaty". You hit the slightest patch of elevation and the thing basically lifts off and you float halfway across the map.

Yayyyy, it turned out to be an evolution video of the warthog!

Very sad to see it get so little love from 343… especially in Infinite :(

I wouldn’t mind seeing an evolution of the banshee. I think it’s just as iconic as the warthog
