My biggest gripe was getting rid of Rebecca Ferguson and replacing her with Hayley Atwell. Then Ethan having flirting moments, like bro at least grief.

Ilsa was one of the best female characters in recent memory. She was written very very well compared to a lot of recent characters.

Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa was my favorite character from the newer installments! I had so many issues with the way they dealt with her character and eventual death. It really dampered my mood for the rest of the movie.

In case this helps anyone, people on the MI reddit are convinced that Ilsa’s death was faked to trick the Entity for reasons such as Paris surviving from a stab with the same knife that “killed” Ilsa, Luther & Benji having no reaction of grief compared to the Secretary’s death in Fallout, the fact that Ilsa “dying” motivates Grace to become used by Kittridge at the end which Ethan was very intent on, the fact that the bridge Ilsa dies on is literally a minute away from a hospital etc. McQuarrie is an incredibly smart writer and Ilsa might just be the ace up his sleeve for making MI:8 the second of two parts rather than 2 different movies.

I love that the villain is an AI that can calculate the odds of everything so of course its biggest enemy is a team that specializes in doing the impossible.

Can’t believe they killed her off. Absolutely loved her in each of the previous movies. Also the story plot was a bit choppy. They could’ve done a better job explaining the threat and bringing the story together

You’re right Grace, Rebecca was totally fridged, and that’s kinda what ruined the movie for me, which is rough because I really love this franchise.

I like Pom's character. She is like Grace Jones in A View to a Kill, a flamboyant evil accomplice turned tragic hero with a redemption arc

Ilsa has been my favorite character since Rogue Nation so I'm pretty bummed but will see where they take it next.

Rebecca better not be dead for real. Luther's comment about needing to out think the AI and Ethan's line at the beginning about her needing to stay dead give me hope. There's hints towards a faked death throughout.

I honestly don’t think Ilsa is dead. It would be a smart plan to trick the AI into thinking one of them is dead. Luther and Benji knew the AI had access to their computers long before the scene where they smashed them up.

Ilsa's death really hurt my opinion of the movie. They spent the 2 previous movies building her and Ethan's relationship, tied off the thread with Julia in a mature way, clearing the way for Ethan and Ilsa to be together. Then they just undo all of that in 5 minutes in this movie and have Ethan move on by end. It's a shame because I like the character of Grace, but she'll always have a bitter aftertaste because of how they did Ilsa dirty to have her take the spotlight.

It was so clear, the second that Ilsa stepped onto that bridge she was dead. It was "Han Solo getting killed by Kylo Ren" levels of obvious. It definitely ticked me off that they couldn't make room for two leading women.
But the best part of the movie was that it kept you guessing throughout.

When Benji while unlocking the bomb said that the most important thing to him were he's friends was really one of the best moments of the franchise. SO EMOCIONAL

I think it's a bummer that they got rid of Ilsa at the expense of keeping Grace alive. Technically the A.I. did play a role in keeping Ethan apart from Grace and Gabriel when they started fighting, but I wish they would've played that angle a bit differently so the team would willingly play right into Gabriel's prediction due to their natural instincts.

When Ilsa died i was more angry than ive ever been in a film. I would have been totally fine for her to die at the beginning, but to bring her back only to kill her?! So cheap.

Ilsa has EVERYTHING they want Hayley Atwell's character to have: intelligence, martial arts, weapons skills, espionage, tactics, why have her replaced? Just let her leave and come back for a final installment, a cameo in the final moments?

I HATED the film because it. From a 10 out of 10 to a 5

The handcuffed scene in the small car was really funny. Nice break of tension from long action scenes.

Grace the Entity is not in the sunken submarine... the Entity is everywhere. The source code in the submarine is a copy of the ORIGINAL source code and the only thing that can be used against the Entity to destroy or control it. Because it is cut off from any kind of connection the entity is unable to access and destroy the old code which is why it is a threat. The Entity does not originate from a single location as it exists everywhere on the internet. There is no "finding" the entity. The only way to destroy it is by manipulating some of the original source code and unleashing it on the internet like a virus killing virus.

Maybe Rebecca is not dead. Maybe Ethan needed a team member that the AI thought was off the board in his back pocket and she will pop up again in the last film. Cause I can't see her being gone for good.

Rebecca Ferguson enhanced the franchise immediately and if dead terrible writing. Leave her dead at start then. Absurd. Not the same character at all. Fridged her.
