If it was inspired by the original mod, they why not at least give credit (bonus points to pay some respect).

Renaming it and making some changes only further solidifies that they want to be original but still want to use the old mod as the basis. Which is the same form of disrespect as adding a mustache to the mona lisa and saying she is french, not italian.
