Sounds like a good way to avoid getting too attached to the work. If you could make it once, you can do it again.

I love how most artists are way less attached to their art than everyone else is

Never been able to articulate "the medium is the message" well before now. This has that vibe

Ngl I love the cathartic slap sound of you just slamming on the clay

I hadn't considered that people who make videos revolving around art are really working with two mediums at once. It's an interesting balance.

Sometimes destroying art is the best way you have to make something you actually like the outcome of. When you can’t fix it, start again. Once I learned to feel less attached to an art piece in process I started having better outcomes

The amount of times I have painted something and then painted over it and then painted over it again… lol.
Art is a form of self expression and oftentimes therapy, people need to understand that it’s not always about the end result, but about enjoying the process. Also, getting to smash what you throw is a lot of fun, can’t wait to move and have the space to set up my wheel and get back to working with clay.

My art teacher used to say that potters have learned to not get too attached and are most accepting when things go wrong or not as planned lol.

AKA potters are most chill and less stressed than other types of artists

My tattoo artist friend told me something once that really stuck with me. He said, "Art is ephemeral. Within 50 years of my death, all the art I made will be rotting too."

You are literally the only potter I’ve ever seen who wears clothing. Thank you.

As a pottery student, I get it. We referred to it as 'The art of letting go'. Pottery itself is an art you have to be okay with the piece breaking at any point. Crushing it after working with it is one good way of showing this detachment that has to be learned. It's one of the harder things to learn in pottery and you can learn it either by breaking it yourself or a piece you work on will break. Either way, you learn something every time.

I find the smash so satisfying. Not necessarily watching it but personally doing it. Even more so when the piece is wrong and it’s best to just start over.
