In this video I'm going to be making Hardtack, the ultimate survival food. Hardtack was carried by the American Civil War soldiers, Napoleon's soldiers, The American Revolutionary War soldiers and more. It's good for backpacking, camping, or to put back for emergencies. It'll be around long after you're gone if it's prepared and stored correctly.

Ingredients:

3 cups of all purpose flour
2 teaspoons of salt
1 cup of water

Love the Bible lessons, makes me feel like I'm not alone in this out of control world. Thank you.

I remember when I was little, my aunts who had a farm in Kentucky had a root cellar for food storage. At all times they were sure to keep a 3-year supply of canned fruits, vegetables and meats. When I asked why so much, my aunts told me it was because one never knew when famine may come or crops would fail. Now, at 69 years of age and living in these times, I completely understand this wisdom. I love your videos and especially your Bible reading and discussions. God bless and keep you and your loved ones.💕🙏🙏

I am a Cook for a Civil War re-enactment group, been doing it for over 30 years now, I began many years ago frying my hard tack in bacon fat, which is something just about every soldier & battlefield cooks had on hand with a lot of bacon, grease & hard tack, frying for a minute or 2 makes the outside crust much softer with an easier to bite crunch to it & the inside soft, & the bacon grease gives it an excellent flavor especially when adding a couple of spices, I got this idea from an older Lady I met on the battlefield at Gettysburg once with our group camping out & she showed me a letter that had been passed down in her Family for years, one of her relatives that fought in the war had written home to his Wife & mentioned the food they ate, including the hard tack & he said it could break teeth, but many began frying in bacon fat which made it much better to eat.

Same with my grandma! We would put back rooted veges in boxes, canned jars up on the shelf, etc in her root cellar. I watched everything she did when I was little. She taught me alot, and I do the same with my granddaughter.

Grew up with Grandma's hard tact in the 50's and 60's. We would visit once a month and her treat for us was hard tact with lard and sugar on it. Grandparents came from Sweden and were loggers.

I remember taking an US History class and our professor (who was also a Civil War reenactor) bought this in for everyone to try. It was interesting.
