Mason is why Pink Floyd sound the way they sound. Only true musicians understand the beauty and perfection of Mason’s drumming. Their music is amazing, but Mason’s drumming makes their music a masterpiece. He doesn’t simply play drums, he plays music. Drummers like him are rare. A legend and a genius.

Nick Mason is definitely underrated (at least by some) as a drummer.  He got overshadowed during the 70's by some of the more stand-out guys, but Nick's sound is to me unmistakable. He feels out the song and plays to it perfectly.  Like Ringo, he kept it simple where it needed to be simple, never trying to take over the song, just add to it appropriately and gave it the right atmosphere.  As a side note, it's fun to see these old videos and note some of the dated attire like the wide leather watch band.   Nick, you've influenced a lot of people over the years and will always be admired for your contributions to music history :)

It's the space he leaves that makes you feel like your floating when listening to Pink Floyd. He a masterful mood drummer. IMO.

Nick Mason makes drumming look easy but it is not...Nick is and always has been one of the most underrated drummers in rock, there is no other drummer like him. His timing is impeccable and his creative style made Pink Floyd what they were. What he is doing now with Saucerful of Secrets is just totally amazing.

Nick is the main ingredient behind the Pink Floyd formula, the Pink Floyd sound. Pink Floyd wouldn't have sounded the way it sounded without Nick.
Nick is definitely underrated, he has a fantastic feel that suited Pink Floyd perfectly.
Among many technician drummers, Nick is one of my top influences.

Check out the 2020 CD/DVD release "Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets: Live at the Roundhouse". OUTSTANDING!! So cool to see Nick still playing great at 76, playing all that great 1967-1972 Floyd music. Nick and the band have major fun putting on a great show.

They're many drummers who play at playing drums. I once quipped those words and got praised and rebuked all at the same time by one of the guys I'd jammed with once. This is coming from a drummer who's been influenced by many of the greats 👍 i.e. Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, John Boham, Keith Moon "the Loon", Ringo Starr, Alex Van Halen, Myron Grombacher, Gil Moore, Neil Peart and Ben E. Carlos (Brad Carlson). Nick Mason was another great influence! He quietly went about his job 💀 😳 of making solid grooves and rhythms with Roger Waters 💧.
And made it look seamless/easy/effortless! He played the drums with a boundless energy and power 🔋 👌 💪 😎 that left you in awe!
