On 21.08.1818 AIDAnova marked the historic float out of the world's first cruise ship operated primarily by LNG at the shipyard MEYER WERFT in Papenburg (Germany). Shipyard MEYER WERFT builds the AIDAnova as the new flagship for the cruise line AIDA Cruises. The AIDAnova is to be handed over to AIDA Cruises on 12.12.2018 in Bremerhaven (Germany) by shipyard MEYER WERFT.

The AIDAnova is the type ship of the so-called HELIOS class, which shipyard MEYER WERFT builds for the CARNIVAL Group. The HELIOS class is the first ship class in the world whose ships are primarily powered by LNG. So far, MEYER WERFT has nine construction contracts for the HELIOS class. Five cruise ships (three ships for AIDA Cruises and two ships for P&O Cruises) are being built at the headquarters in Papenburg (Germany). Four more cruise ships (two ships for Costa Crociere and two ships for CARNIVAL) are being built at the MEYER Turku yard in Finland.
The AIDAnova is with 183,858 GT at the time of going into service the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany.
