Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look and installing the etrailer class three trailer hitch receiver on a 2022 Jeep Cherokee. Now, once your hitch is installed, this is what it's gonna look like when it's on the vehicle. And you can see that it is a hidden crosstube, and that's gonna be great because the only thing that's gonna be hanging down and visible is gonna be the receiver tube opening. And that's gonna be nice 'cause you get all the utility, but you also maintain a nice, clean OEM Look on your Jeep.

Now, having a two-inch-by-two-inch receiver tube opening is gonna be great. A lot of your accessories come in that standard. A lot of times, you'll be limited with a smaller size or even a larger size. So this is gonna be great for your bike racks, cargo carriers, ball mounts. So whatever you plan on doing with your Jeep, great option for it.

Now, there is a 5/8 hole here for your pin and clip. The hitches don't come with pin and clips. A lot of your accessories will have them when you purchase them. We also have ones that are available here that are locking. So that way, when you have your accessories in, you can lock it up and not have to worry about that accessory disappearing.

Now, if you are planning on towing, you're gonna see you have your safety chain loops here, and you can see they're nice and open. So even your larger clevis style, if you have a heavy-duty trailer, or even your standard hooks are gonna go on with no problem. Now, speaking of that towing, you're probably wondering what can it do And it's a decent amount here. So this one's rated at a gross trailer weight rating of 4,500 pounds, so overall pretty decent. That's gonna be a pretty good trailer plus the accessories loaded up.

So not too bad there. Now, you also have a tongue weight rating here of 675 pounds and that's gonna be just that weight pushed down on here. So when you have your suspended accessories, bike racks, cargo carriers, that's kinda the weight that it's supporting. With 675, you should be fine with most cargo carriers as you're gonna probably exceed that weight limit before you do on the hitch. Now, if you plan on towing with weight distribution, that's gonna be kinda nice to bump those numbers up. And in fact, this one's gonna be going to 5,500 pounds, so pretty good. It's gonna bump that gross trailer weight rating up and allow you to carry a little bit more. Now, your tongue weight rating is gonna bump up to 750. So you already had a pretty high number. That's going even higher there. So kinda nice to be able to inflate those numbers with that weight distribution. Now, you're gonna wanna check your vehicle's owner's manual to see what the Cherokee's actually capable of towing, compare it with the hitch, and just take the lower of those two numbers. That way, you're not over-exceeding either one, and you're gonna stay safe. Now, when choosing accessories, sometimes it's helpful to have some measurements. And one of those is gonna be from the center of the pin and clip hole there to the furthest point of the rear fascia. It's about 4 1/2 inches. And that's really important just for your folding accessories. A lot of times, you can determine where that's gonna sit on the vehicle once you fold them up. Now, this one it's pretty, you know, you have a small amount, that 4 1/2 inches. So I don't worry too much that your bike rack or cargo carrier is gonna hit this. But it is something to keep in mind when determining which accessories you want. Now, another important measurement is gonna be the ground clearance. And this one comes in at 11 1/2 inches. So as far as the hitch making contact with anything, not too worried about that. But when you do have your accessories loaded up, it extends the length of the vehicle past the rear wheel. So as you go up that incline, just think about that cargo carrier or bike rack that you have loaded up and just be conscious of that. That way, you're not making contact with the ground and damaging your accessories. Now, overall, this install is pretty straightforward. Now, you do have to remove the muffler. And main reason is just creating a little bit of a pocket of space to get that hitch up. But overall, it's a pretty easy install. You can definitely do this in your driveway or garage and probably about an hour or so with minimal tools. And honestly, it's not too bad of an install, especially when you get the benefits of a hitch after you're done. It's really gonna open up the world of accessories that you can load up on your Jeep and kind of what you can do with your Jeep. So speaking of that install, let's t

this is not a 2022 jeep cherokee X. The factory tow package is embedded in the bumper cover. Looks much better than this add on rig. It is much easier to install and it has the factory wiring harness which provides 4 flat as well as 7 RV plug with brake controller wiring.
