Thank goodness for this video. I can’t stand when the corners of my nails are sharp but I love the way square looks on my hand when my nails are short. Tysm 😘

I like sharp square, with one pass on the underneath of the free edge with an emery board.
My salon does a skinny square, which is a sharp square with a bare minimum off the sides. Nowhere near a coffin, you can barely tell it's been done. They're gorgeous.

I LOVE a very sharp square I have left salons and the edges got rounded in filing and immediately sharpened them up in my car and will sharpen them up between fills. Funny how personal these choices are and how many options there are.

I find that if I file my natural nails in a sharp square, the corners inevitably break. I’ve changed to a soft square, and they stay in much better condition.

I am definitely a SHARP SQUARE gal. I am constantly re-sharpening them as they soften on their own. In 30 years of doing nails I’ve only ever worn sharp sqaure on myself. I’m also an acrylic snob for myself. In Will do other product on other people, but for my own nails, it’s only acrylic and sharp square.🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Something I wish you added that I’ve seen a lot. Sometimes people get square nails, but because of the angle of which it is files, it appears almost as a soft “U” shape on top. It is hard to achieve a perfect square as you said!

Hey Suzie!
When I think of nail wizards, I immediately think of you. You have a VAST amount of knowledge when it comes to nails/how they grow/anatomy/etc and so I have a question. And you may or may not see this (and maybe someone in the comments will know if you don’t know or don’t see it!)
But I have had issues with my nails for FOREVER. They are very brittle, I CONSTANTLY deal with sidewall hangnails, my cuticle latches on to my nail bed and as it grows (which, my nails grow VERY quickly), it pulls the cuticle waaay further than it should and this will end up getting super dry and cause very painful hangnails as well.
I have to CONSTANTLY prune my nails/cuticles or I will end up with so many hangnails.
I’ve been told I just need a good nail oil, but when I’ve tried nail oils in the past it’s like it just sits on the surface of my skin and never soaks in. And if it soaks in at all my skin will definitely just feel greasy as heck until I wash my hands. I have the same issue with lotion, it just doesn’t want to soak in.
My nails also tend to fan out? I guess you could say? I don’t know if that makes sense, I know I’ve heard of people refer to it as “duck nails” as well.
I also struggle with getting ANYTHING to stick to my nails for any longer than a day or two. Nail polish will pop off whole like they’re press ons, acrylics pop right off, press ons also don’t stay more than a day or two. Dehydrating them beforehand helps a little bit but it doesn’t solve the issue.
But I’m just at a loss of what to do with them.
Anytime I’ve gotten a professional manicure they look at me like I’m insane because of how bad my nails look.
And because of all this I pick at my nails profusely. I just want my nails to look and feel healthy!!

Do you have any advice?

I love tapered square, they give the illusion of longer fingers.

I’ve been scratching my husbands back (to put him to sleep) every night for 24 years now. My left hand, the nails are SQUARE (he loves the sharp edges) and my right hand has round corners. I’ve been doing my own nails since Covid and found that I save much money. Great videos!

Box/Square for my nails I buff the corners so no scratches. Square thumb nails are so much easier to balance an extension to look straight.
It's crazy how the nail wears on certain fingers and needs to be built back out to a square in width.

I like sharp square, but I go underneath and slightly dull those points because they can cut me up.

Love your videos. What would call a square shape - top is very straight/flat but only the corners are softened?

I love sharp square nails 😩 but nail techs often tell me to soften the corners, because they don’t want me to scratch myself lol

Suzie! I just discovered hybrid gel and used a kit from Beetles. I LOVE how it turned out but my hands itched so so badly for a few days after the application. Do you think its the gel or the slip that has something in it, which made me itch? I am sad because I gotta figure this out so I can use it again! 😩
