I never would have imagined that you would do this much purging! I feel that such positive changes are leading you in a great direction. Simplifying life also clears the mind

These videos are so inspiring! I'm an army wife, and also mom/housewife, and we move about every 2-4 years! We are soon moving to Hawaii, and I need to get ride of so much stuff. These videos are helping me out so much because there is no need for us to be lugging all this extra stuff! It's amazing how much you acquire after only 3 years in a place. Thanks Jen! Oh I am also definitely going to check out that Erin Condrin book!

Purging is good but I'd never be able say goodbye to any of my books! I love to re-read, even if I'm not a fan at first. Books can have different meanings in different times of our lives, so something you are not loving might be a great read 30 years from now. The books that I really don't like - which is rare - I lend them to different people for years and years :)

Jen Im so proud of you, sometimes we can get attach to things and habits and its hard to let go. Getting rid of my books was difficult to me because im such an avid reader and every book ive read reminds me a certain time in my life. Once you finally let go, you realize its all in your head and you feel lighter. Purging feels good!

Hi Jen, thanks for showing this purge. I used to be a serious book reader/collector when I was in my late teens early twenties. My first serious purge came about when my first husband and I "down sized" after moving, yet again. (In the 9.5 yrs he and I were married we moved at least 15+ times and no, not military or job related.) I purged 22 banana boxes packed to bursting and still had at least 25-30 banana boxes we lugged around when we moved. Each move I would purge a little more at the time.

Now as my sight is rapidly failing (I have been legally blind all my life, but the older I get the worse it gets.) I still read but with apps like Kindle, Nook and Audible I can choose which to keep and which to not keep with out taking up precious physical space. Yes, I miss the feel of a solid book be it paper back or hard bound... But that seems to be where the current and future its taking us.

Another great video Jen.  I purged my books a few months back.  Could not believe how many I had since college and I won't tell you how many years ago that was.  I found I was keeping them because for the obvious, I really liked the book or because it was like a trophy on a shelf.  It was satisfying to look and see how much I had read over the years.  Now, like you, I kept only a handful and I love the new space and freedom it gives to now look at empty shelves and have new space for different things.

I really love these vids! They motivate me to also clean up and get rid of the things that "do not spark joy" and which i never use..

When I purged my books I invited friends over asked them if they wanted any then donated what was left over. I read everything on my Kindle. Cookbooks are another story. They are something my mom and I shared a love for and now that she is gone I brought some of hers to my house. No room for them but they remind me of her. They have hand written notes in them. Special memories.

This post is exactly what I needed. I'm currently prepping for a cross country move and had recently completely a half hearted "purge" of my books. Time for another round, as I too have a large collection of Martha Stewart's Everyday Food of which many haven't been referenced since they were first placed on the shelf. Thanks!

I just filled 4 file boxes of books and 2 large bags. I started on this, then read about a local hospital having a book sale this week for charity. Thanks for getting me started.

Jen, I have really enjoyed your purging/organizing videos lately. It is perfect timing as Hubby and I are about to sell our home and downsize. It is just that time in our lives. So your videos have encouraged this pack rat, lol! God Bless, Brenda~

I donated 5 banker boxes of books, DVDs, & VCR movies, to the public library, before my last move.  I would've liked to sell some of them or contributed them towards a book exchange, as I could've used the $; but, there was no time to consider anything other than donation, and I could not bear the thought of moving so many books, once again.  It's always comforting, for me, to know that someone else might be enjoying something, that was getting no use stored on my shelf.  As a result, I've also started to check out materials from our public library system much more often, including popular DVD movies.  I can usually find what I want at the library; so, I've minimized entertainment expenses in the processes.
