Rebecca seems to be thinking very carefully about how she is answering the questions. Nice job.

What's wrong with being a bit nervous on camera? I think it's a nice gentle reminder that we're all human. This lady did very well indeed. 1000 times better presented than any of the plastic people on reality TV shows could do!

Ah she speaks like I do when I'm nervous, my brain will queue up a nice smart sentence and then my mouth just won't let the words out. Then I worry about how it sounds and it gets worse and worse till I feel like it's time to stop talking all together.

I'd love to hear more about how smart vehicles could coordinate, flock, move in waves, avoid jams, and do really cool stuff like in the moment an accident is happening when all involved vehicles are smart. Or, just how four smart cars arriving at four way stop all handle the situation with different algorithms.

stop complaining and set the playback speed to 1.25 or 1.5

I'm really glad to see that in the Gartner hype cycle we seem to approach the phase in which finally true (and realistic) development can happen. It's understandable that people would diminish the kind of progress described here but I feel it's important to keep in mind that this felt disappointment isn't unique to self driving cars and doesn't mean that this technology is unreachable in any way. It's an unfortunate (and, in my opinion, unhelpful) side effect of the Gartner hype cycle. Now is the time to commit to and invest in foundational research into self driving technologies and that's precisely what we see here.

Would really appreciate subtitles as I am not a native English speaker

Will the pods avoid dogs and cats? I think it would be a bigger PR disaster if auto-autos (that's how I call autonomous automobiles) do not mind for small pets.

Sounds like that one kid in class that's always called on to read.

Driverless -> I understood that they developed some kind of protocol that would not require the developers to write a driver code for hardware extensions.

If it has to rely on rails for safety does it really qualify as a level 5?

maybe a design similar to carriers.
have a 2 part system, one smaller pod is responsible for short distance with flexibility and can detach from the main transport vehicle.
and a main vehicle that is much faster that freights the smaller pods around to their destination radius.

on the road AND sidewalk/ pavement? might prevent pedestrians being accosted by low sensitvity mobility crews and kamikaze cyclists here in uk...

I feel like the photo at 1:11 is begging to be poorly photo shopped into a meme where this guy is running over stuff or being chased by cops..
Cool looking tech!

The liability question makes me wonder if the concept of 'vicarious liability' might be extended to machines. Hypothetically if I'm a good employer but my employee does their job negligently and causes an injury then as an employer I can be liable for how they do the job. I wonder if courts might ever extend that principle so that if I operate or produce a machine and I do my part fine but the machine is faulty and causes an injury I would be liable.

this is a lot better to watch at 1.25 speed, nice to see someone focus on the underlieing technologie and not with a finished product in mind.
