I just had the realization that Darcy willfully reached down as Lizzie was walking past him to grab her hand and help her into the carriage. It wasn’t some expected thing that he had to do. He chose to do it out of impulse and attraction to her. He was like, “This is my chance. Don’t let her get away this time, Darcy, ” and he grabbed her hand in that sudden moment. Just the logistics of holding her hand. He has to move his eyes, locate her hand, hold that hand and then steer it up to balance her on to the carriage. Bingley was on the right, whilst Darcy on the left. So she knew EXACTLY who it could and couldn't be. He had to go out of his way, step forward and get her hand. And then throughout the story he keeps going out of his way to LEND HER A HELPING HAND.
