I stopped cooking and started to eat salad with a little meat, dried fruit, seeds, nuts and cheese for toppings. This gives me a more varied and healthier diet.

My life actually started in my early 60s. That was the best time of my life. It was a wake up call that there was another world out there. Besides the one I was in. I retired when I was 64 and it was all uphill after that.

I loved your video. Especially how you said woman over 50 should live like they're already retired, to prepare for their lifestyle when retired. Wonderful. 😊Sue

Great tips! The only one I wouod add to is dont clear the entire shelf on a good deal. Think of others and only take your fair share. ☺

I agree 100% with what you've said . . . except for car care. I used to change the oil on my 1965 Scout ( International Harvester) but that was in the 70s. In 1980 I bought a Chevrolet Monza, which had almost no ground clearance. I wanted to buy some drive-on jacks so I could continue to change my oil, but my Dad said "No, they're too dangerous. " Fast forward 20 years, I'm working at my local hospital, and during one weekend we get three admissions for chest injuries where the car fell off these drive up jacks. No thanks, I'll let the mechanic do it!

While I love Farmers markets and supporting local businesses, farmers markets are not cheaper for fresh veggies, I’ve found they are quite a bit more at least in the areas I’ve lived in.

Remind viewers to take precautions when bringing anything used into the home....bugs, spiders, mold....can really ruin your day. Love you

You lost me when you said go to food banks just to be thrifty. That is different than going when when you really need to.

Great video with many good points! Respectfully, I slightly disagree with the gym memebership: if it is your respite, or you will
Push yourself more with a group exercise… do it!! Never go cheap on your mental or physical health. My big tip is meet friends for a walk or hike instead of lunch or dinner!

I am 64 and have been living frugal doing these things for years. Times have changed and newer ideas need to be come up with. You have to take it a step farther come up with new and better idea's. You can't just say shop sells and use coupons, now every meal has to be planned out to the last little crumb you have with nothing wasted. Having meat in a meal is now the dessert, it's for special occasions, with two more canning plants closing down soon vegetable prices will also be going up. How are you going to handle that? While casseroles used to be the secret and dump crockpot meals were the answer, now every ingredient cost 20 percent more. 5 ingredient recipes will cost you more than 20.00, now it's just plain potatoes with a side of beans. Spices will become more important, cooking outside every chance you get will be the way to go, and no you can't use those cute gas things, nor charcoal you will be going foraging for wood. Mom made a temporary cooker outside the back of the house when I was young out of some leftover concrete blocks and we found the wood. Used an old oven wire rack for the pots and pans to sit on. Think now before you get caught in the storm that is coming. Do you really need to use all that toilet paper? Reassess every purchase, save your cash, small bills, don't trust the banks, have your tax money set aside as soon as you get the last one paid off. I had thought we were going to be o.k. until I saw some utubers in Arizona show the price of a beef roast at 42.00. Those prices are moving my way, it's time to buckle down even harder. Good luck, I would like to know if anyone else is really feeling the pinch and what have they had to give up that other people think are "normal" purchases.

We have several little free libraries in our city. I donate books and pick up books. It's a great resource

I’m 34 but I enjoyed the video. Instead of using the dryer to dry my clothes. I hang with up in my bathroom on the shower rod or door knobs throughout.

Not only those changes, but we also go thru menopause too in our 50’s, which often isn’t easy!

Another book source is Little Free Libraries. They are scattered around neighborhoods and are a great way to share books.

For the last few months, my budget has gotten completely blown. It's a good thing I have quite a bit in savings.
It's also a good thing that my health insurance is good. I'd have even more bills!

Great tips, Sara! Reminders always appreciated for sure. A couple more to consider. 1) Take advantage of any discounts for which you may qualify: senior, military, teacher, first responder etc. Many other occupations/professions may be eligible for their own discount. 2) Stores/services don't often advertise specific discounts they offer; ask! 3) Check out sports and entertainment venues and research becoming an "event staff" person. This may be either as a volunteer or for perhaps minimal pay but a) free entertainment, b) sometimes a free, light meal is included, and c) maybe extra income. Again, thank you, Sara, for all you present! Barb

I had to back up and listen again about what you said about cooking at home. Haven't we done that for ages? I love my own cooking and I know when it's healthy or a splurge. Those delicious meals become lunch to take to work. Eating out is for special occasions with a family member. I'm over 60 (still working) and batch cook one weekend day. I love most of the other suggestions! Thanks for the great content! When I dropped Prime, I bought less!

I really appreciate your enthusiasm. I think you could do a great video about how getting older can affect us emotionally and in turn that can affect us financially. Whether it be spending more because of our emotions or not focusing on spending on the important things to take care of ourselves. I think you would do really well with discussing real emotions behind spending habits because you seem to be very down to earth.

I absolutely love all the tips. Batch cooking, make easy delicious 😋 snacks, shopping sales at different stores 🏬, and yes using what I have. I love YouTube so no cable for me. Walking around the neighborhood is my way of getting exercise. Working on my garden in my backyard. Growing flowers and herbs to have around the house 🏠 for natural aroma. Ohh so many possibilities and don’t cost a penny 😊
