Building a 16 TB NAS drive 🤓

Building a NAS drive! Found the NAS on FB marketplace for $150, gave it a nice cleaning, then added 4 4TB WD Red Plus NAS drives in RAID 5 config. Let’s hope this lasts me a few years!

If you haven’t done it yet, consider having redundancy between drives, you lose a bit of capacity but at least you won’t risk losing data you’ve stored in case one of the drives fails

I had a similar 4 bay in Raid 5. Worked brilliantly, until the motherboard blew up 3 months after the warranty ended.

Nas boxes average around $500, 4tb hdd around $100/each. That's a $900 solution.
