Miriam journeys to an Aboriginal mission with two men from the Stolen Generation. Her anger is palpable but the men share their outlook - that the only way forward is to remember with a spirit of reconciliation and learn from Australia's dark history. #ImpossiblyAustralian

___________________________________________

Following a recent heart operation in London, Miriam is worried about what the future holds. So, ignoring everyone's advice to "slow down", she returns to Australia, a place she considers her second home and a country that, for her, has always meant new horizons.

Across the three-part series, she embarks on a personal mission, travelling to Perth, Byron Bay and Broken Hill, meeting communities that are facing change and who can teach her how to adapt to whatever the future holds.

This is the official ABC TV + iview YouTube channel. Here you’ll find a mix of trailers, behind the scenes content, interviews and clips from all your favourite ABC shows.

People forget at this time, indigenous Australians were considered under the flora and fauna lists next to plants and animals.
We weren't even listed as humans

Amen, we need to heal and I believe that everyone knowing the truth is going to be a big part of that. ❤

I've been studying this in university in Canada and doing research papers. It is grim and barbarous reading. Myself and my 7 siblings were also apprehended at birth by the Canadian government and each given to a separate white family. This was known as the 60's Scoop though the policy extended into the 1980's. Our last residential school, analogous to a Mission, closed in 1995.

Unfortunately, as an Indigenous Canadian, this has completely soured my view of Australia and Australians. A country I once thought to visit. Indigenous Canadians who have gone on university exchange report open and shocking racism in shops, restaurants and on the street following the No vote.

It is and the recent No vote win only shows things haven’t changed much 😢
