This algebra video tutorial explains how to simplify radicals with variables and exponents. These include square roots and cube roots with positive and negative numbers as well as x and y variables. This video explains when to use the absolute value expression when simplifying radicals. It also explains how to convert a radical expression into an algebraic expression with rational exponents. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems on simplifying radical expressions.

I second an earlier comment. Thank you!!! Why can't My MathLab have videos like this! I got a perfect score on my 1111 midterm because of this guy. He's the best. He explains in ways I understand.

MR. Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for another well explained video/lecture on Simplifying Radicals. Radicals appear in all levels of Science and Engineering, however simplifying them makes algebraic expression easier to understand.

I am a math teacher and very lazy! Each year the school renews my contract because they think i am good with math. But they don't know I am watching your vides to learn Math. You are giving me a chance to put food on my table!

0:01 The reason there is an "index number of 2" is because the little symbol that represents a "square root" (the side ways "L" with a squiggly line) is a chopped off corner of an actual square. A cube root should actually have an extra diagonal line, like chopping off the corner of a cube, and there should also be an invisible "3"

I do not understand the purpose of doing the absolute value thing if you get an odd exponent... the dude just says "it is so" and doesn't explain any further.

So why wouldn’t you further simply by bringing the 4 down to 2 as 4 is the square root of 2?

Why is there a need to put an absolute value symbol?

I like your work, however you take the answer away too soon, I always have to rewind to see the last figure and comment! Thanks
