It's funny how the simple phrase 'draw what you see' ends up being really difficult to put into practice, I always get hung up on symbols/the images I have in my head. Thanks for the advice Josie!

Thanks Josie - that's the encouragement I need to get that book down from our bookshelf and read it!

Love your outlook, , I taught myself to draw with that book, it's wonderful to be connected in that zone. It gets easier when I dont try so hard 😊 ❤

The mirror example was such an "Aha!" moment for me. ❤❤❤ The mirror and the paper/canvas are 2 dimensional vs the real object is 3-d. My brain struggles with "seeing" the 2-d version of a 3-d object. The mirror or even a photo captures the 2-d slice of the 3-d reality.

Hi Josie! I had to laugh about your house drawing cause, yes, I remember those days in elementary school. I still fall into that trap of symbols sometimes, but I'm getting better at letting go, and drawing shapes instead. Have a great evening! Donna

Great video. Read that book but not enough :P .. But yeah, the moments when I was really connected with my drawings were when I was more focused on doing the right lines and shapes, not considering the subject. Actually I sometimes have this connection problem (or let's say switching from one side of the brain to the other). I knew it and I couldn't tell why.. Your words about symbols make me realize what could be wrong about my mental approach and could help me a lot. So thank you for giving me a good hint.
At the same time I would like to ask you: even knowing all you are saying in the video, do you ever struggle/get lost? And how do you manage that lack of consciousness?
Have a nice day
