How much does .COM , .NET & dot ORG Cost for ICANN Accredited Domain Registrar?
What is the cost price for domains does companies like GoDaddy, Namecheap or Hostinger purchase?

Some Registrar Applicants get confused about whom are they paying for the domain name? Is it ICANN? What is Registries? Whom to pay for what services?
Cost structure of domain name for ICANN accredited registrar for per domain cost has many factor to consider.

When it comes to registrar pricing there are 3 things you need to consider.
1. Registry TLD Pricing
2. ICANN fee per domain
3. EPP Software cost
Lets first discuss about Registry price for TLD's.
After getting ICANN Accreditation in the next steps, Registrar's signup with registries to offer those TLD's under their domain offering's to your customers.
There are different registries which manage different TLDs. famous TLDs like .COM .NET are managed by Verisign
.ORG is managed by Public Interest Registry
.INFO is managed by Identity Digital which was previously under Afilias
.SITE , .TECH or dot website is even managed by radix registry
overall In total there are 1502 Top level Domain are available and there are many ccTLD registries as well.
So if you would like to offer various TLD's like .xyz or .rocks or dot what not, then you need to signup with each of this registry.
In dot up we liaise between registry and you the registrar and set you up with all the registries to offer them to your customer.
Registries charge a fixed price for registration, renewal or transfer of domain. and the cost of redemption while in renewal grace period is different from the rest
Lets take dot COM as an example.
Verisign charge $9.59 for registration, renewal or transfer for dot COM
Similarly dot NET is priced at $ 9.92 per year.
This is what verisign charge the registrars. These fees are charged at each transaction from the pre paid wallet funds you need to maintain with the registry.
Yes you heard it right. Registrars need to maintain a wallet funds with registries and whenever a customer register, renew or transfer a domain you will be charged from your wallet.
Next factor in pricing of a TLD would be ICANN Fee
ICANN charge 18 cents per domain for every transaction years.
So if a customer renew a domain for 1 year then ICANN charges you 18 cents
if your customer renews a domain for 5 years then ICANN will charge you 5 into 18 cents which comes to 90 cents
Registrars dont need to maintain a wallet funds with ICANN, however ICANN will send you a quarterly invoice with the amount that Registrars need to make payment against this invoice.
The last factor is an optional factor since it may not apply to all registrars.
If a regisrar is using a EPP software platform then the software provider would probably charge anywhere between 15 cents to 40 cents per domain which is the cost of provinding the technology infrastructure service
