INSANELY LOUD USAF E-3 Sentry SMOKY Takeoff from Abbotsford Airport! (4K)

On October 1st, this USAF E-3 Sentry arrived in Abbotsford, British Columbia, for the annual "Girls Fly Too" event. However, it didn't leave immediately after the event like the other USAF aircraft, and stayed for over a week.

I happened to be nearby in Vancouver the day it was leaving, and I knew I had to take the chance to catch one of these militarized 707s, especially with the original engines!

With thanks to Brandon for driving me to Abbotsford in the first place lol.

Proud to see our neighbors to the north enjoying these. I’ve been around tinker dozens of times and this is still my favorite aircraft in the USAF fleet. You can hear and feel them coming and it’s an amazing sound

What I wouldn’t give to fly on the passenger version, B-707, and the DC-8 once again. 😉. The 707 still to this day holds a special place in my heart ❤️

Oh the classic 707, still one of my favourite machines up to this day. Love the catch, and also it’s feature with the radar on top!

That was great! Loud and smoky, just as it should be :) The brake dust catch was a fabulous bonus!!

I live just south across the border in Bellingham, WA and that thing went right over my house at probably 4-5K feet. It was loud! I was wondering what that was so I opened my Flightradar24 app and saw what it was and wondered what it was doing in Abbottsford. Now I know! Thanks for posting. Love your channel.

I noticed a puff of black smoke/dust from the main gear when it retracted. I suppose it is brakes being applied to the spinning wheels to stop them before entering wheel well.

Alex great catch no doubt those grand daddy engines must have been screaming even from the far side of the field. Not exactly the most fuel efficient but then again it's the USAF, so burn all the fuel you want it's tax payer $$$$. I still marvel at the stresses and drag the AWACS modifications must put on that 707 airframe. Catch of a lifetime i"d say thanks.

Hiya Alex from the States. This is Guerry again, and it has been a long time, but hopefully I will be able to be more faithful in viewing your posts again. And so... You thought the E-3 was insanely loud and smoky? Believe it or not, all of its JT3D engines have had all the "Hush" and "Anti-Smoke" modifications that can be applied to them. I do know that our Air Force had a bunch of their "707" type aircraft modified to use the CFM engines, but I'm not sure why the E-3's were not modified in that manner. Most noticeably missing from these engines is the auxiliary air intakes that are visible on the nacelles of 707 photographs. That cut down a lot of the noise that used to come from the engine's compressors. However, from what I've read a long time ago, it has limited the aircraft's crosswind capabilities.

Years ago, whenever I traveled I ensured that I had enough time at the airport to get my "observation platform" fix, and it was so much fun to witness runway and terminal activities. But even from a mile or two away, the sound vibrations from the aircraft was severe enough to rattle nearby windows. So, you did get to witness the quietest and least smoky JT3D's still in operation.

As a side note, among the reasons the US Air Force is getting rid of its JT3D's is due to a shortage of parts, since it has been years since the engine halted production.

Anyway, thank-you for the post. I am looking forward to your next video.

That's nuts! I've been on a classic-jet kick lately and this fits the bill very well today! Thanks!

Could you please include the date in the description of your videos. You usually only show the month as in this one but the specific date would be useful info. Thanks. Curious how did you know the E-3 would be leaving then?

Very nice! Glad I was able to fly in a pax version back in late 70s. Love watching those smokers jumping around during turbulence! 👍✌️

I was happy enough to have walked inside it at the GF2 event, but it must have been exhilarating to see and hear it in action!

Are those the same JT-3Ds as a 707? I notice there are no turbo compressor inlets (and exhausts) on top of the engines.

At one time all airliners sounded like that. Or louder. Yikes!
