Zeppelins were the coolest machines of war and no one can change my mind about that, I mean just imagine seeing one of those things flying over and casting its shadow on your town

They were also extensively used in naval warfare as scouts, mainly because they could travel a long way and stay out much longer than any other vehicle of the day. They could also carry radios to transmit sitting reports to shore.

Honestly, their success in this role was pretty mixed...
