"And from that station they go to research.."
LOL. I would just call it a big wooden table with a taped down measuring tape..

I don't think I've ever felt more sorry for a snake that literally sits in a hole and does nothing but eat rats and other various rodents that would overrun the earth without said snake...

What a waste of an event..

Omg this is supported by National Geographic?? I’ve been lied to

The favourite part for everybody is to see the snakes chopped. Yeah!

Now I realize that the cruelest animal is human.

Haven’t species gone extinct because people thought they were “scary”

So let me get this straight- these people go out looking for rattlers in their natural habitat, catch them, and then take them to a slaughtering festival? Wtf is wrong with people.

The days when National Geographic happily supported this kind of thing were supposed to have been consigned to the past. With the cheerful jangling soundtrack this film plays like a throwback (which is exactly what it is) to the 1950's and 60's in rural America where annual 'events' like this and the clubbing to death of foxes for example was presented as wholesome entertainment suitable for children. This is the normalisation of killing wildlife for fun. It is utterly outdated and morally unjustifiable.

I’m pretty sure anti venom is developed in a safe and sterile lab, not in a dirty bucket in an open environment. This event should be banned, snakes will not harm you if you leave them alone

after getting the information about them i thought he was goin to say that they release them, but then it showed them gettin their heads cut off, that is just horrible

How has the rodent population been since the snake roundups have been happening year after year?

I was like "Oh, well this is cool. They gather up some snakes, do research for the wildlife control people or whatever, and then they release them". Then out of no where this guy has a machete and.... Oh My Goodness! How is this allowed? Terrible and nothing short of it! -Bryan

I am wildly disturbed that NatGeo produced a positive story about this practice. These roundups are anything but sustainable (or ethical).

I'm extremely upset to see this covered in such a positive way. Roundups aren't cool or interesting. They're incredibly cruel and have no purpose, as rattlesnakes aren't invasive in Texas. These events normalize and glamorize animal cruelty, and as a Texan, I hate that they're a part of our culture.

I'd rather see these things alive and preferably left alone.

All these negative responses are hilarious. In 1957/58 Nolan County and Taylor County was being overrun by the Rattlesnakes. Something had to be done for the safety of children and livestock. If your back yard became full of rattlesnakes and your kids ran outside to play and got bit by one. What would you do?

I support Texas becoming its own country now. I no longer claim them as a part of the US
