Why Was Catherine de Medici Known As The Black Queen Of France?

Catherine de Medici, born in 1519 into the powerful Medici family of Florence, became Queen of France and a central political figure during a time of intense religious conflict. Despite her attempts at diplomacy, she was often blamed for the violence and turmoil of her era, particularly the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, which tarnished her legacy as the "Black Queen."

From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

It takes a woman of stupendous strength, fortitude and intelligence to navigate the trials of regency, motherhood and religious discontent which she did.
I’m proud to be called Catherine!

This was brilliant. A woman leader before her time. Misunderstood and lied about, she did her best for the Valois. Love her. No snakes. ❤

Terrificslly done. Powerful people will never be sern as anything but scheming people. But thsbks to shows like this. We get to see them in very different lights.

She is one of the most amazing women in history. The only shrewder Queen is Elizabeth I.

They literally explain why she was called "The Black Queen" in the first 20 mins 😂

I suggest breaking and or pausing the narration more often, to give our brains a little time to absorb the onslaught on info. It's too much work to pause the vid every 3 mins. Take a breath, take a pause, and stop making vids that cut out all pauses. We all need a pause now and then. It's ok.

All I know is SHE is highly-villified amongst the elderly of my extended Cajun family. Not A single conciliatory word have I heard regarding Catherine de Medici, not even at our behemoth Family Reunions.
We Cajuns have MEMORIES.

I believe she was a strong and intelligent woman, who loved France, her family and God.

If he was that "devoted" to his mistress, I wonder how many of those 8 kids were actually his.

Really good, thank you. She certainly tried her best for her adopted country. Shame how peoples names are either shamed through history or are made paragons of virtue ( when they are not!) by the same history. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

As I listen to your summary at the end. I still thank you for the video. But want to add my thankfulness that I was born in the last half of the 20th Century. Women and people today(even if things are not perfect)
are so much better off. I think for the the time she lived and the
resources she
was allowed. I think she did
a darn good job. If she was so good at killing people off. Why did she let that @#%@#$
Diane de Poitiers live so long. 🤷🏼‍♀️Just sayin'?

Great video. Very informative. It really did a fantastic job highlighting a part of European history that we don't often get in America, or taught as part of world history curriculum information. However one thing that I would like to suggest although this is my first time to your channel I would like to suggest and hope that in the future you seek to do interviews or bring in other footage of people that have talked on your subjects just to put a little additional variety into your videos.

It should be really hard for Catherine before she die to have lost one husband and three sons, also knowing that the last one will likely be childless and the whole dynasty cease to exist despite all Catherine's efforts.

Well, if Henry was philandering with his mistresses, Catherine could hardly conceive.
Apparently, Henry finally did his job.

Thoroughly engaging and informative! Thank you. It must heard again, with pen in hand, to sort out for an average history lover, and lover of France for conclusions. However, I found sufficient evidence in your presentation to conclude, that Catherine was not only gifted in political leadership, but a setter of policies long termed astute in later decades, even centuries. Her deep spoken faith leads me to believe she was appointed and anointed by the God to whom she was so yielded for this very season.
