Driver's Seat - Sniff 'n' the tears (1978)

"Driver's Seat" is a 1978 song by the British band Sniff 'n' the Tears that appears on their debut album, Fickle Heart. The band is considered a one-hit wonder as "Driver's Seat" was their only hit.

The genesis of the song dates back to 1973 and a demo tape recorded for a French record label by singer/guitarist Paul Roberts for the band Ashes of Moon. However, that band broke up and, at the suggestion of drummer Luigi Salvoni, Roberts re-formed it as Sniff 'n' the Tears with guitarists Laurence "Loz" Netto and Mick Dyche and bassist Nick South. They shopped the demo tape and signed with the small Chiswick label in 1977. Keith Miller played the Moog solo and also toured America with the band

....Wow... 1978...in March...I just got out of the Navy Seabees 133 at Golfport Mississippi and driving with Linda in her 1971 in her orange Plymouth Duster heading for Washington state....a stop off in Coos Bay Oregon to pick up my 1972 Dotson pickup....as we headed north...it was the start of our future life together....great memories with this song....thank you and God Bless....Linda and I got Married in June of 1978 and I got hired at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Feb of 1979....She passed away on my birthday in 1995, she was only 38 years....a true heartbreak for me and our 3 kiddos....I retired in 2010 as a Navy Civilian...I live in Tucson now and play life has been sinced blessed as I have found my peace in life....Thank you Lord for blessing me....🥰

1978 was the best year for anything. I was a sophomore in high school. Miss those times.

This has got to be the single greatest one hit wonder ever recorded. The cream of one hit wonder crop.

Just saw an interview with Paul Roberts, the band leader, who claimed that the song wasn't written as a driving song. It's a song about getting back "on your feet" after a breakup. Being the driver requires inner strength with the ability to look ahead. Now I know what he meant by the line "What can I do when I remember my time with you?"

I loved this song during its short life on the charts in 1980. This was back in the day when I would have to sit around the radio all day waiting for it to be played. I spent the next 17 years looking for a recording, to no avail. And then, miracle of miracles, it appeared in Boogie Nights. I stopped on the way home from the theater to pick it up at a record store. Now thanks to the web, I have a dozen remixes and other creative variations of this song delivered to my hard drive with but a the click of the mouse.

The Woman ♀️ in the video Is ABSOLUTELY Beautiful!! 1978, when this tune dropped, I was 17 years old and I think about what I have been through since 2010 until now, brain surgery, resetting my nose, heart failure and recently lymphoma cancer and now approaching 63 in November, when most people who meet me now, can't even believe that I am older than 44!! I don't know how old that young lady is in the video, but she is Stunning! Love her eyes and smile!! Simply Captivating and Alluring!! 😅😅

I recall driving my 70 Plymouth Duster 340 ci in 1979 with my GF from high school by my side. This song was playing on my car radio as we drove over a tall bridge. The window was down
and the summer
breeze was blowing through her hair as the sun glinted upon her pretty face. She was wearing a summer dress and looked so pretty. We didn’t work out, however we are still friends to this day. 🥰

Such an underrated tune, as once it's in your head, it ain't going anywhere. Knew a beautiful girl, much like this one, but she just wanted to be in the "Drivers Seat". Awesome tune and awesome girl...
