Is Your Lawn Struggling? Watch This.

In this video, I will show you 3 simple ways to keep your lawn green during a drought.

Step 1: Water your Lawn
Proper watering is crucial for maintaining a healthy lawn during the hot summer months. As a general guideline, lawns typically require around 1 to 2 inches of water per week. However, it's important to consider factors like soil type, grass species, and local climate conditions. To determine the ideal watering schedule, it's recommended to water deeply and infrequently. This encourages the grass roots to grow deeper into the soil, making them more resilient to drought. Watering in the early morning is advisable to minimize water evaporation and prevent lawn fungus. Using tools like sprinkler gauges can help measure how much water your sprinklers are putting at at a given time. By providing the right amount of water, you can ensure that your lawn stays healthy and green throughout the summer season.

Step 2. Apply Baby Shampoo
Baby shampoo can be a surprisingly effective aid in improving water absorption in your lawn. The surfactant properties of baby shampoo, when diluted and applied to the grass, acts as a natural wetting agent. It reduces the surface tension of water, enabling it to spread more evenly and deeply into the soil. This enhanced water penetration helps the roots of the grass access the moisture they need, promoting healthy growth and preventing dry patches. By incorporating baby shampoo into your watering routine, you can ensure that your lawn receives optimal hydration, resulting in a lush green lawn.

Step 3: Light Fertilizer Application
Fertilizing your lawn during the summer can provide the necessary nutrients to support its growth and resilience in the face of heat and stress. However, it's important to approach summer fertilization with CAUTION. Opt for a small amounts of liquid fertilizer to minimize the risk of burning the grass. Aim for a balanced fertilizer with a ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium suited to your grass type as seen in our video. Water the lawn immediately after fertilization or the next morning to ensure the nutrients penetrate the soil and reach the roots effectively. Regularly monitor the condition of your lawn throughout the summer and adjust the fertilization schedule as needed to maintain a healthy and vibrant lawn.

The empty tuna can is the go to for telling the customer how to figure out what an inch of rain is. I love the fact that you know that too.

George just want to say I always love your videos. I’d say your the most relatable YouTuber for lawn care I watch. You always break things down for the average Joe/Jane in a super understandable way. Hope good things keep coming your way, you deserve them!

I'M ANGRY GEORGE ... because you don't have a Patreon or a simple Paypal page. You seem like a genuine down to earth guy and you do help so many who view your channel. Please consider being a Patreon member. I'm certain many would like to make a simple contribution as a thank you for all you do.

I'm new to lawn care, I've always hired a landscape company but this year I decided I could do it better. I learned a lot from your videos, thank you so much. Please keep up the good work.

I’m new to the lawn care game, and I’ve been watching all the big name channels on here for the past few months. I have to say, your channel is hands down my favorite. You’re always clear and to the point, informative and the videos are all very enjoyable to watch. Not to mention, your lawn looks outstanding, and it adds to the encouragement (not always the case with some of the lawn expert channels for whatever reason it may be). But anyway, thank you so much for doing what you do and being generous with your knowledge. I appreciate you, kind sir.

Baby shampoo can be expensive, but the cheapest dollar store stuff works great. (Actually, anything with Sodium Laureth Sulfate ... the key ingredient for a wetting agent ... will work). I just use dollar store bubble bath ... a big bottle for $1.25. I use the Jerry Baker lawn tonic formulas, but I use fresh human pee instead of ammonia and I have one of the greenest lawns on my block. I don't take drugs or use meds and I drink only distilled water, so it's all quite safe. Urine contains urea, phosphorous and potassium, so it's all valuable. Also, in hot climates (I'm in Texas) mow your grass on the highest setting. I mow my St Augustine at 4" and it's lush and thick.

George... you are Old School Cool .You help so many on so many different levels. You give shout outs to others instead of taking the credit, and u Do Not grift or con people. You take so much of the complexity of the overwhelming information and boil it down so that We do it yourself types can make easier decisions. You even made a YouTube content provider pay breakdown...Wow.. talk about up front disclosure and seeing behind the scenes... You my brother are a rare and Honorable Man of Character . Praying for continued Blessings and success for you and your Family .

Great tips George. With the insane prices today I can see people trying the cheaper alternatives. Your lawn looks great and have to say " That mower though" 💯💥

So glad I found your channel. Just moved from an apartment to a 4br house with a beautiful backyard, except the lawn is struggling. Yellow spots of dormant grass, a few dead spots and uneven areas. Found all the info I needed in one place, and on a budget friendly plan. Just ordered everything I need. Now to dial in the sprinkler system. Thank you dude!
