Patching up coolant leak with K-Seal on 2012 Prius

My Prius was getting random misfires, had already changed the spark plugs and ignition coils but was still having issues in the morning. Finally realized that I probably had coolant leaking in through a blown head gasket.

Testing K-Seal as a temporary fix until I figured out a permanent solution.

Pro Tip. If you cant do the head gasket you can take the Oring out of your coolant overflow and it will unpressurize system. It will boil much much easier but pushes way less cooland into the cylinder. working great in winter especially.

Thanks for the honest telling of the process. I did not expect the ending.

Thanks for your video. I have a 2014 Prius 2. I also was receiving misfires, shaking, losing coolant and burning oil at a faster than normal speed. When I purchased my vehicle I would get a oil change every 10K. Now I get a oil change about every 4K miles. I also forgot mention my Prius has over 300K miles. Anyway I spent a little over $3K getting all new spark plugs, injector coils and having that installed by a professional. Sadly that didn't fix the problem of the shaking, misfires and coolant loss. I was spending about $50 a week in coolant. Anyway I seen your video yesterday and gave it a try. Waited for car to cool before applying, did the maintenance run to keep engine running so solution can run through the car. 4 hours later started it back up and it was perfect. Went and got an oil change just in case anything during all that bad driving I was doing mixed in with the oil. Woke up this morning for another cold start. Perfect. Even if this isnt a permanent fix this is great. Thanks

I used KSeal on my 2012. Worked perfectly. 0 issues. No leak, no knock. Runs like brand new. I wish I would have known earlier!

K-Seal saved me a ton on repairs costs for my 2014 LR4. I was losing a 1/2 tank every two weeks. K-Seal can also be used as a preventive treatment.

If you find that your prius knocks on cold mornings just pull up the airbox and wipe the underside of the butterfly valve out with a paper towel there is usually oil and water puddles sitting at the bottom the intake under the valve. Its a defect of the third gen. I own a 2011 its been great but is starting to show its age.

You have to pour it in when your over flow tank not as full as it was when u recording because of this your k seal was flowing on top of the coolant in the overflow tank and it didn't get a chance to get sucked down into the radiator and to circulate throughout the coolant system

Hate putting anything foreign into my coolant used this on the seeping heater core on my 2001 Ram truck and it did work. I'm not sure if I'm seeing a little diminished heat now coming from the heater but we'll see. I'd say always be cautious using anything like this and just don't be surprised if you end up with no heat.

I have a slow coolant leak that isn’t visible. Shop swears it’s not blown gasket. Oil isn’t milky color, no white smoke from tailpipe, etc. I used K seal and a week later my coolant level is where it was before I poured in the K Seal. It’s driving me crazy. The shop told me it’s either a small leak in the radiation plug and I need to replace my radiator or else my water pump is faulty. My water pump is about 60, 000 miles old. I’m gonna wait another week to see where my coolant level is then. Maybe it just went down a bit after the K seal but is sealed now?

Any update on how long this fix lasted for you? Currently have the same issue but have hesitated because I've seen some people recommending not to use products like this. let me know please!

A did same to a 2013 prius v & it lasted about 10, 000 miles . But now it just started. To rattle harder than the 1st time last night.. about to do it again tomorrow I drive 200-300 miles a day..
head gasket kit $200-)230. U could find a mobile mechanic.. to do it under $1, 500. After this I just need to make some $ for the kit & do it myself.. I have $40 in my account..lol

I have the check engine light P0302, P0300, P0303 on a 255, 600 mile Prius V. All 3 spark plugs 9 month old, spark plug rusted so I’d replace all 4 spark plugs and ignition coil. I notice smoke come out of exhaust and the rust I concluded that I had a leak gasket. I use blown gasket sealant. All errors code went away after 2 days drive but on the 3rd day my water pump broke tomorrow I’ll replace the water pump it’s an easy job. Water pump have a life time of 60k-100k mile so I guess the sorta the straw that broke the old camel back while at it I’m to change the thermostat housing too. Hope it’s works.
