Boris Johnson and Keir Starmer go head to head one final time today before parliament breaks for summer recess.
MPs will be flocking back to their constituencies for a 40-day break from the commons later this afternoon. The government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis will likely dominate the final PMQs of term, just as it has almost every session since Starmer was elected leader back on April 4.
There’s also an urgent question in the Commons on the Russia report to look forward to, plus a blockbuster committee hearing with scandal-struck Robert Jenrick.
Last week, Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance’s admitted coronavirus outcome “has not been good,” and that Johnson was advised by his scientists to lock down the country a full week before he did so.
There’s also a division between the PM's suggestion we could be back to normal by Christmas while his scientists warn of a second wave; the belated U-turn on wearing masks in shops; the still-fairly-hopeless test and trace stats.
After PMQs, MPs will get the chance to voice their concerns about the Russia report via an urgent question granted to Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds.
