My name is Abbie Emmons I teach writers how to make their stories matter by harnessing the power and psychology of storytelling, transforming their ideas into a masterpiece, and creating a lifestyle that makes their author dreams come true.

Story isn’t about “what happens” — it’s about how what happens affects and transforms the characters. I believe that there is an exact science (a recipe, if you will) behind a perfect story. And if you know what ingredients you need, you can create your own perfect story with ease and confidence. That’s what we talk about every week on this channel – and if it’s something you’re into, be sure to subscribe and join this community!

here it is, in case you can't watch the entire video !! love you abbie <3
- schedule writing time in advance

*morning writing routine*
- skincare
- stretch
- make a cup of tea
- family time
- put on screentime to allow only spotify and the writing application during those writing hours
- noise cancelling headphones
- noon - pause to make something special; chai latte, london fog, etc.
- if you have source material prepared ahead, you will be able to write faster

*afternoon writing routine*
- get rid of devices !! no distractions ;)
- do a little yoga to get the creative juices flowing, or dance to your favorite music
- change location ! get a change of scenery and write in a different place
- tell everyone you’re writing and you do *NOT* want to be disturbed
- listen to ambient soundscapes !
- dont set a cut-off time, write until you have other priorities

*evening/night writing routine*
- write until you’re tired, if your head is full of ideas, it’s better to just write because you know you’ll be awake thinking about your book anyways

You seem to have a lot of freedom during your days for creativity and that's pretty awesome. Well done 👌 I admire people who choose to follow a career path that they enjoy and work hard towards.

I'm 26 and have just started writing my first draft for a YA Sci-fi romance fantasy book. I have a 4 yr old, a 10 month old and I work 3-5 days a week in a hospital.

I kept making excuses as to why I couldn't write but instead of spending the rest of the night on Facebook or something else when the kids went to bed I've been trying to write at least 300-600 words a day.

I guess any progress is progress and that's what works for me at the moment. Life can get so busy 🤯

This motivates me so much to write. It's been a hard few days and this helped me so much. Thank you, Abbie.

I love the idea of having three different writing routines for each part of the day! Life happens and its really nice to know that each part of the day can still be productive in its own way. I tend to favor evening for my writing routine because I know I don't have to go anywhere and I can commit to writing with no responsibilities nagging at me. I'll definitely have to work in a morning and afternoon routine, though. It will be a fun challenge for me to expand my routine for all the times I'm too exhausted at the end of the day. Thank you for the video! It's always fun to see how other writers balance their writing and life routines! :)

As a teen writer, it's very hard to establish a routine, but I'm hoping to make one as I begin a new book :)

My NaNoWriMo project is set at Christmas time. I am at my desk at 4:00 a.m. with peppermint coffee, a lot pine scented candle, a few Christmas decorations around, and the Coffee House Christmas Jazz playlist going. It activates all of my senses as I write .

Thank you for sharing your writing routine. I write on my off days from 8pm to 11am and then at night. I also plan my writing tasks a day in advance and have tea or coffee.
Happy writing!

You're a true inspiration to me. When I started my journey to create a book series, I was super excited as I was able to bring my childhood imagination stories into light and develop them into actual stories. However, after having a few sessions of creative writing lessons, I was struggling for months. I had no idea how to plan anything out properly and only new some of the basics. I attempted to write a prologue example as homework for my story sessions but as my teacher reviewed it, she noticed there was a couple of big issues which drew me into a depressed mood for months. Believing I couldn't do it, I gave up for the first few months of 2020.

Then, I suddenly stumbled onto your channel. You were so positive and happy as well as very encouraging but, to be completely honest, I wasn't finding your videos helpful and it wasn't because your videos were bad, not by a long shot. It was because I didn't understand them clear enough because of how inexperienced I am when it comes to creative writing. I tried finding other youtubers for help and they didn't help too much either.

However, I decided to give your channel once more chance and somehow, things started to click. I was able to understand a lot about story telling from inciting incidents, themes, misbeliefs, hooks and so much more. Plus, the catchphrase I always go by now is "Make My Story Matter".

I'm so happy that I stayed here to learn and even though I haven't started writing my first story yet, I have done a lot of planning that has evolved over the past few months. My original idea was scrapped because too much was going on but now, I have a lot of great and creative ideas that makes my story matter to my protagonist.

Like i've said before, i'm very inexperienced and new when it comes to creative writing and producing stories however, ever since I was young I always created worlds, characters and stories in my head. I tried doing art in college but that sadly didn't work out too well in the end however, when I decided to give writing a try, things became more motivating and exciting for me, even if I have lots of hiccups and troubles along the way thanks to anxiety and depression being absolute pains.

But, i'm feeling more positive now as I'm working towards something that means so much to me, not because the theme is important to me but because this was an imaginary idea I thought of ever since I was 8 and it has stuck with me ever since.

Thank you for making this channel, you're an absolute inspiration and i'm so happy I stayed to watch your videos :)

Thanks for sharing your routine with us. Most of the time my writing routine is Monday-Thursdays 9am-12pm and 7pm-9pm. Fridays are my days of rest, and then the weekends I call them bonus days. Unless I have appointments during the week, or my chronic illnesses act up. I use Friday-Sunday as buffer days as I need them.

This is the first video where you sound like a professional, taking seriously even the smallest things. I personally prefer this more grounded and mature version of Abbie. 😊

It’s amazing that you’ve got all this down and you have such a good insight into yourself. Knowing that must help as you move from day to day with your writing and keep up your health as well.
