The REAL history of π

Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and its decimal expansion is never-ending and never-repeating. For thousands of years, mathematicians across the world have derived increasingly accurate values. The video is based on information in this Wikipedia article:

Chart made with Flourish Studio
(The video is meant to give the idea of the scale of computation over time. I believe all figures are correct. But it took me hours to format the data for the chart, including manual entry, and such steps can introduce errors. For actual numbers and figures, please refer to the Wikipedia article).

I originally misunderstood the numbers as being their estimation of pi and was very confused

Ironically you only need like 45 digits of Pi to calculate the circumference of the universe to within less than the size of an electron of error

I love this because all the text is too blurry to read so there's no genuine understanding of progression

This is a freakin awesome use of this “over history” template

C'mon man, use a logarithmic scale.

Guys, I just want to clear a misunderstanding which many people have. They think that π = 22/7, but π ≈ 22/7. π is an irrational constant that couldn't be expressed in the form of p/q, q ≠ 0, (p, q) are integers.
If you already know, then it's good 👍.
Thank you 😄

Where is Issac Newton who used the binomial theorem to calculate to any accuracy?

in class 9 icse history textbook they have stated that aryabhatta was the first to calculate first 5 digits of pi

Wow...
I appreciate this. Some people think Indians are uncivilized. I'll say just read our history. From MATHEMATICS to ASTRONOMY
From Wars to Peace
From one's duty to humanity...
Our Culture teaches everything...
From millennia.
Now You can decide who were/are uncivilized.

You've got to appreciate how practical this is

i feel like they used a linear scale because it shows you how much calculating pi has evolved over the years (especially the first computers leading to a massive spike in pi digits)

but still we use π^2 = 10 .. anr π= 3.14

The thing is, those many digits of pi aren't really that useful. Pi is just so famous and important that people use it as a landmark to test our current calculating prowess.

computers just start dominating the leaderboard

But in exams we still use 3.14
Everything wasted💀💀

The First Person was BAUDHAYAN in 800 BC who had the given the Value of Pi as 3 🙏👍

You should make a video on Tau on march 14th when MIT admissions decisions come out at 6:28 PM EST

Only 47 decimal places of π
would be sufficiently precise
to inscribe a circle around the visible universe
that doesn't deviate from perfect circularity
by more than the distance across a single proton.
