I once found a dead mother opposum who had been hit by a car lying in the middle of the road. While driving by I saw that her pouch was moving so I knew she had babies. I didn't want them to die so I stopped my car hoping that I could save them. I reached my hand into her pouch and was astonished that they just kept coming. It felt like it was nature's version of Santa's magic bag with endless toys because there seemed to be more babies in her pouch than you would think could realistically fit. I ended up getting 12 of them out of there, but sadly one was already dead. I took care of all the others and they were finally able to be released. I was happy that I saved 11 of them, but I felt really bad that I couldn't save the 12th. It still bothers me to this day. I also felt awful about the mother opossum being killed, but I'm glad I was able to save all of her babies except one.
