How To Do A European Mount (The Easy Way)

Показать описание
Doing your own european mount can be a pain sometimes especially with larger animals, and especially when you're out in the field. With the rise of CWD regulations, many places require you to get rid of any brain or spinal matter before transporting the skull of your harvest.

This means you have to either skull cap your animal in the field or bring a huge pot and propane burner with you on your hunt which can take up a lot of space as well as being hard to balance with a big set of antler.

In this video, Randy has found a solution that makes the process a lot easier while also taking up much less previous cargo space in your hunting rig.

In Europe we actually do it in a bit different way...
1. Skin the head, cut out as much as you can.
2. Bring PURE water to the boil.
3. Put the head into the boiling water.
4. Boil it for 45min to 2 hours (depend on the age of the stag.
5. "Quench" the head in the cold water for couple of minutes.
6. Power wash all the meat that's left.
7. With a long screw driver punch through nasal cavieties.
8. Power wash again until the bone is clean.
9. Use 30% peroxide to whiten the skull. Just brush it down.
10. Let it dry in the sun.

I highly recommend salon care volume 40 for diy European mounts. It is excellent for whitening and can be painted on using the creme version. However I boil mine in the salon care 40 and it comes out perfect every time, wont miss any spots. Hit it with diluted mop&glo afterwards for Smell and shine like white bone does.

If you have access to a pressure washer, that really works great to remove all of the gunk after you boil the scull, just bungy cord the scull to a 2' x 2' piece of plywood so it doesn't go flying. : )

Using a pressure washer after the boil, saves a lot of time. Little to no scraping. Wear a rain suit and goggles. Hold it between your feet to spray. There are videos showing this method. Works real good

Should wrap your horns with Reynolds wrap to keep that stuff from getting on the horn . and use aluminum foil around the skull helped keep the heat in makes the peroxide work faster

Thats really slick. It looks far more convenient than my cast iron cauldron and a fire. But it works for me. When I start doing out of state hunts i will be really interested in getting one.

Won't white paint work for the whitening?

Another super tip, if you have access to a pressure washer you’ll have almost no picking or scraping!

Did you boil the end of the skull off or did you drop it?

Sweet setup for sure
I found a processor in CO where I hunt that charges me 49$ for a clean boil.
Pretty good deal but it adds 3 Days to my trip unless I tag out early

That tank is great, but a bit spendy for the setup. If I were to be in business doing euro mounts that would be the ticket. Well thought out design. I also boil less and use power washer. I also put my whitener in a clean pot of water and simmer for 10-15 minutes at the end and they turn out pretty white!

Giving it a fresh water rinse when done will wash all the excess off as well.
