One thing often overlooked, is that after the Fall of Constantinople, Greek scholars fled to Italy and helped bring about the Renaissance.

Nice. Though it should be pointed out that a Grexit is far less likely today than it was during the height of the crisis.

Right now financial security should be at the top of everyone's priority list. I just heard on the news that In eviction cases in the U.S, about 13% of the U.S. population which represents over 40 million people is at risk of losing their homes this year. it’s going to be a very, very difficult time and I don’t want to be a doom and gloom person. I have roughly $100, 000 in lifesaving funds that I need to grow quickly because the dream of retiring is starting to seem like a fairy tale. Please leave a comment if you can help.

As a Greek, it's fascinating to me how impactful Greece was throughout history, the Greeks thousands of years ago started a lot of things we have today, such as democracy, science and mathematics. And it's crazy how downhill it's gone now.

German here, I want to offer a short version of my view of the crisis here. In short: Greece caused the debt problem by itself, but Germany actively made it worse. In the video, it is sort of indirectly mentioned: Debt to GDP ratio skyrocketed after the crisis began - much of that can be attributed to a shrinking GDP. Easy example: Say a country has a debt-to-GDP of 100%. Then the GDP drops by 25%. This means that the debt-to-GDP ratio is now at 133%. This partially explains the enormous increase in debt. What is the cause of the shrinking GDP? A huge part can be attributed to the economic policies that were implemented at the start of the crisis. Important to note: Germany was pretty much responsible for Greece's economic policies with the implementation of the Troika. To put it bluntly, in these matters, Greece was pretty much a vassal to Germany. And Germany was - and still is - obsessed with economic austerity and a balanced budget. Since Greece was spending a lot, huge cuts were implemented on behalf of Germany's government - many of these were to social services. However, this also meant that people had less money to spend, leading to a downward spiral. Germany is really stupid with regards to economic policies, so much so that I'd say our economy thrives (so far) in spite, not because of our politics. So, Germany actively made the situation in Greece worse. But that's not all. In German newspapers, reports of "us having to save the irresponsible south Europeans and lazy Greeks" was pretty common. It was disgusting on so many levels.

I personally am in favor of a debt cut for Greece - also sort of as a payback for a) the Troika and b) WW2 forced loans.

So so much love from Italy to Greece. 🇬🇷❤🇮🇹 We feel such a strong bond between our people (really una faccia una razza), but sadly this time in history we also share a challenging economic-demografic situation :( hope for a better future for both of us

Population decline is it's major issue. Even without the Euro, devaluing any alternate currency isn't a magic bullet that would of solved all of greece's problems. The debt would still of been in Euros and Dollars, peoples savings would of been wiped out. And they would still be in massive debt.

1:53 for 4000 years the Greek language has been documented. The Greek language itself is even older in these lands, probably from 6.000 years ago, and the Greek people for even longer.
