"Eve I expect a public apology for this, i'd like it in writing"
Are you sure you want that in writing? 😭I think we've narrowed that down as the issue 😭

Hii jack!!!!
Just a stupid idea but if you're up for it how about reading books that were published on the same day as your bday? Like it would be a bit tough to find but i think it will be so awesome!!! :)

Goodreads wise, everything lower than a 3.5 is literally so bad. So a 2.3 is absolutely horrendous!!

New video ideas:
- books set in spring
- books set in London
- reading one book for each decade (starting from the 1920s)
- books with trans/non-binary lead characters or main characters
- Anya Taylor joy's book recommendations
- books about famous ppl (à la Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones, not autobiographies or biographies)
- books with a love story but not strictly a romance (e.g. Swimming in the Dark, Call me by Your Name, One Day, Brooklyn, Atonement)

can i just say i’m always amazed at how well you recall the books you’ve read because as soon as i put a book down, i have already forgotten what happened in it lmao

Well, I also looked at my "worst books" on Goodreads, and I learned that I am terrible at rating books. I feel bad giving anything under 3 stars, like I'm going to hurt the book's feelings, as ridiculous as that sounds. Middle school me was heartless and gave some of the books we read in school that are typically well liked 1s or 2s because I absolutely hated them, and I still stand by those ratings.

I wonder if any of the people who rated Jane Eyre Laid Bare highly didn't realise that Jane Eyre was a whole separate novel and rated the Jane Eyre parts as if they were original to that novel lmaooo

The way I saw the title and already knew that ‘Jane Eyre: Laid Bare’ would make a feature 💀💀

I deemed all of these books (with the exception of Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke) unworthy of my time after Jack reviewed them in previous videos. Apparently my entire taste in books is based solely on what Jack likes.

The best thing about this video is that u can see how visibly uncomfortable jack is with talking abt books he didn’t necessarily like bc he genuinely doesn’t like spreading negativity. That just makes me so happy

Jane Eyre Laid Bare: (exists)
Jack: “You are the bane of my existence.”
JELB: “Wasn’t there a part of being the object of your desire or something?”
Jack: (sighs) “You are an Object FULL STOP!”

I’m here for the Oxygen Thief slander. It’s so satisfying to go onto Goodreads after a book leaves a bad taste in your mouth and see that the most liked comment says exactly what you were thinking!

You should do a part 2 to the ‘reading books based on their cover’ and read books that have the worst cover to see if they’re actually good. Like just go to a bookstore one day and find the ugliest books and see if they’re actually good

I actually had the opposite problem with “Things have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke.” I’ve read a lot of what people what call “disturbing” books and I just found this one to be lacking in pacing, and buildup when compared to a lot of other stories I’ve read. I think the concept is great, but the execution needed a bit more polish. The hardest thing for me was I couldn’t really feel a difference in voice between the two main characters, which kind of sapped the believability out of the whole thing for me.

I feel like Things Have Gotten Worse is not extreme enough for those who like to be shocked, and too extreme for those who don't like to step out of their comfort zone. And then there's a small group of people for whom it is exactly right 👌 the Goldilocks of books.

Has Jack made a video about his favorite poetry books yet? Would love that.

oh fascinating, our tastes usually match but things have gotten worse straight up got 1 star from me! i'm glad you loved it but it was an absolute miss from me.
it wasn't the horror aspect at all, but the fact that the emails were written so unrealistically that i couldn't take it seriously or immerse myself. also it went from 0-100 way too fast and i can't suspend my disbelief when the characters exchange like 6 whole emails before a slave contract is brought up. her descent into her mental illness came out of nowhere and as someone who was in an abusive online-based relationship, this felt like...genuinely offensive lol
