And yes he does sing those high notes. Brad Delp was the vocalists name and was utterly incredible. Just play anything from their first album (Boston/Boston) and enjoy! Hitch a Ride or Foreplay/Long Time for a couple of beauts!

This was Boston's debut album. Simply incredible music from the get go.

Tom Scholz is the musical genius behind Boston. He crafted the debut album almost entirely by himself over the course of several years. He even invented and built some of the specialized equipment he used. Tom literally was pitching the album to labels when there wasn’t actually a band yet. It is a fascinating story. Tom was, of course, very fortunate to get Brad Delp to do the vocals. He was incredibly talented.

Whats funny is Boston is band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1975 - his vocals are so calming and range is unreal

I grew up with Boston, never saw them live. They were like a band that wasn't real. Tom Scholz recorded this album in his basement and it's ALL bangers. There are some stories about this band that are just crazy. RIP Brad Delp. One-of-a-kind voice.

Next up: Peace Of Mind and then Foreplay/Long Time. Rock classics.

Boston got me through college. I put the record on after school. Did my home work listening to them. Played their music all weekends. Learned to play guitar and More Than A Feeling one of the first songs I learned to play. I moved to Canada in 1979. The first ever concert I saw was Boston in Vancouver. I got chills hearing them live. I just closed my eyes and was transported back in time. Brokenhearted with Brad Delp’s passing. There will never be another like him. One reactor brought me to tears as Brad’s voice was fading at the end of the song. She said, “legend says, he is still going.”

As others have mentioned, most of the album was recorded in a home-made basement studio in Watertown, Mass. Tom Scholz - the tall guy on the left in the video - wrote all of the songs except the last one on the album and recorded all but that song himself, one instrument at a time except for drums. The last song was written by Brad Delp, the incredible singer, and was recorded by the band in LA. If/when you get to Foreplay/Longtime, you'll hear some spacey effects, the likes of which had not been done before. Scholz invented the hardware he needed to get the sounds he wanted. He has a Master's degree in engineering from MIT. He later formed a company to make the Rockman, essentially an advanced version of the invention used to get the sounds he wanted.
