Many people are saying that you have to understand the complex history to make any judgments. Actually, from where I stand, you don’t. What I see is that a) there was a barbaric terrorist attack with few parallels in living memory, b) there are a fair number of people seemingly taking glee in what they are seeing, and c) there are many more that can’t or won’t bring themselves to condemn the people in groups (a) and (b). So, actually, there is a lot that I have learned about a lot of people in the last 96 hours. And it has nothing to do with the complex history, religious disagreements, settlements, land, proxies, geopolitics, or other things like that which require deep background knowledge.
