Social hierarchy is a very common theme is Optimu's/Megatron's backstory.
If I remmeber correctly, IDW started this theme, where Cybertronians were separeted into casts. Megatron was a member of the lowest cast, and he tried to change the system, together with Orion who was also a low ranked bot too.
Since them most continuities reuse that element, like Aligned continuity, Transformrs Prime, WFC:Siege, etc
Megatron's low cast mining bot origin comes from the IDW comics.

Class/Caste structure of Cybertron society was a huge core theme in the IDW comics, probably where they drew inspiration from for this movie

I just saw this movie and wow, what a great movie this was cause my expectations were pretty low from the marketing, but man this movie had some balls with some of the choices it made through out the film

I'm a longtime Transformer fan, i've loved most of the cartoons and comics from the Japanese to the American. I hate the Michael Bay flicks and feel it has damaged the franchises image for the public but I liked Rise of the Beasts and Bumblebee.

This movie has no connection to any other continuity but it has 40 years of cartoon and comic book lore stuffed into the movie and it's excellent. I love this movie.

I liked it quite a lot. Got tickets to see again next weekend, but in IMAX 3D. Regular 3D was good but I need to see the stereoscopic version again in the clearest 3D possible!!

The caste system has been a core theme of the aligned continuity for a while now. It’s the reason Megatron rose up. Orion’s origins are different here. Megatron was a miner.
