right, so NASA can get us to mars.  but they can't seem to master a simple task like sound quality?

This guy's talking about our star dying off... We have much more urgent problems than that sir!

Going to Mars is not the biggest problem. It's having the power to return to earth.

google "the 90 day report mars" and read the pdf version... fascinating reading on how and how far we should be by now as of the 1989 plan.

When they get an asteroid orbiting the moon, I hope it will be big enough to see with the naked eye. I think that would be really cool.

I hope people come to understand just what kind of human achievement this commercial involvement is. And, as for funding... there's a lot of, it seems, popular support for NASA funding, but, as to science funding in general, there is this chasm of special interests that sours people on the idea that this is an area for government involvement. If we could, maybe explain that what many of us want is pure science, far from market stuff. When the government funds 'healthy cattle' research, it wreaks of something a food producer co-op should be doing, rather than the US federal government. We could, though, theoretically create a US sector of biologicals, say gut bacteria research, and simultaneously lead to the solution for a whole group of these problems. We could have all the expert scientists based in the US! But we have to go for it where it really seems far from market.

I think I've heard somewhere that we may have something call a "Moon" or something, I'm not sure... well, anyways... from what I've heard, this Moon thing could be closer than Mars. I don't know, I'm just saying.

I'm sorry but, we need a permanent moon colony before we go to Mars.

This shouldn't be the discussion in the first place. It must be on how humans can go back to Earth once they've landed on Mars. Thing is going to Mars is quite easy, send a spacecraft like Orion, re-enter Mars atmosphere, deploy chutes and land, that's it you're in Mars. But I've never heard any word about how to go home to Earth from Mars. The only ride home is a rocket itself, but sending a rocket to Mars seems impossible, I mean landing a big rocket in Mars.

Mine them asteroids then you won't have budget problems.
