This film depicts the true story of the relationship between famed author William Allen White and his daughter Mary, who died in a horseback-riding accident at only 16 years old, and the powerful effect that the tragedy had on her father's life

Reviews:
"A triumph in visualized storytelling. Memorable! This exquisite production brings to life the words of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, William Allen White in reminiscence after the death of his teenaged daughter in 1921. This is a feast for the literate, the discerning and the humanist. It must also be the peak realization of Ed Flanders' memorable career. He is well remembered here for his brilliant portrayal of the author."

"I forget many things - but this movie I have not!
Very sensitive and enriching.
I remember a great deal of humor and smiles, but also a strong and open message. I say open in that it is not an elitist, talk-down-to message - rather it is simple and accessible, without dumbing-down the feelings and efforts of the protagonists.
Excellent script/story that is very effectively, enjoyably realized.
See this movie."

It was lovely. My daughter only lived 23years, but the stories, her character, I would love to have a movie made of her too. I believe in the resurrection, I will see her again, and Mary White too, living a real life in a paradise earth, where they should be!

This is a beautiful tribute from a father to his daughter. I could not help but wonder how Mary White would live in what the world has become today.- a world where social justice means anything but justice.

A beautiful story of parents nurturing their children to be free thinkers to bring about positive action. Mary spirit was lifted up long before she die . Kudos to the parents for their love towards her and giving her that space to spread her wings to take flight . I love the father admiration of her mind when she spoke, he felt the warrior princess within her, that passion, wisdom, strength to bring about change.

A lovely film with a fabulous family, they look and behave perfectly all the time. Life in this period was probably difficult for a free spirit girl with so many ideas of freedom and equality in a small town. I enjoyed the movie enormously.

Although death is an enemy as the Bible says, this was not a depressing movie. This was a celebration of Mary's life. This is a wonderful movie.

So many are missing the point here.

Its not about how she died, it was how she lived. Back then it was frowned upon for women to speak their minds and express their opinions. Women back then were shut down for anything simply because they were women and you might think it not likely but Mary was in fact wise beyond her years and saw the seperation between men and women just like other women saw this however, Mary was the only young woman brave enough or as they called it back then, improper enough to speak her mind despite what others thought. The things women are allowed to do today such as vote and work is because of women like Mary using their voice. We are no different from Mary. We see something we find unfair we speak freely and that is what Mary did and you might say she is bratty and disrespectful but only because you're not looking at the present. Women are allowed to do far more presently rather than simply cooking, cleaning and giving birth. We can actually help our parents and our husbads now because women like Mary spoke up and she was only a teenager which tells you behind that bold attitude, she was wise beyond her years. Just a girl who didnt understand nor needed to understand seperation. She understood unity and thats what others needed to understand.

A true loving story from the eyes of a loving Father. A story that was written for all to see the way it should have been made into a movie thanks to the White Family for letting us see their daughter in real life.

Had Mary lived, she was going to attend Wellesley College. She had been accepted. The obituary written by her father was beautiful. There is a lot of information online about the father, Mary, and the brother. The father and brother were Republicans. There is the Peter Pan Park in Emporia. The father donated the land for the park. There is a bust of the father and plaques telling Mary's story.

She was ahead of her time. I could picture her in the Baby Boomer's generation as a free spirited flower child if she was born in my time. She had the looks with the long hair. She was very pretty too. Like the song the Cowsills sang. "The Rain The Park." I love the flower girl.
