Lived in an apartment for a week was pregnant and had a 2 yr old.
Stepped out the shower one day to a maintenance guy in my living room. I screamed and ran back in my bathroom and called police.
That's when I found out maintenance and even housekeeping have access to keys. I changed the locks and about a month later the complex tried to evict me for breaking the lease, they claimed changing the locks and not providing them a copy as the grounds. I fought it in court and thankfully had a judge with some sense who ended up fining the Complex for predatory practices.

I had a contractor that was doing repairs in my new apartment become obsessed with me. He bought me flowers, asked me out relentlessly and would not take no for an answer. I was terrified of moving into the apartment and having him stalk me there. My good guy friend who is like a brother confronted him and paid him the balance of the money for the work and told him to stay away from me. We changed the locks in my new apartment and I filed a police report that night. Thankfully he never bothered me again. There are sick, disturbed, obsessive people out there who insist they have a connection with you because you smiled at them or were polite or kind. May this beautiful soul rest in peace. She didn't deserve this 😥

I worked with a young lady named Jasmine Wright and she was one of the nicest and smartest girls who worked there. She left the call center and moved to PA to continue her education, she had already graduated from Drexel and done work in Africa. A few months later I heard the the grapevine she was killed in her apt by a maintenance who had a sick infatuation with unbeknownst to her, just because she was nice and cordial to him. He had been fired from the job but still had keys to the apartments. He hid in her home and ambushed her when she returned he assaulted and strangled her. I will never forget her she was a great young lady and may she RIH!!🙏🏾🙏🏾

My dad changed my doorknob locks as soon as I moved in to my apartment, and I'm beyond thankful he did. Rest in peace to this beautiful soul. 🙏🏽❤️🕊

Moms don’t forget to teach your sons that no means no and stop giving your kids everything they want. They need to learn young that they will not always get their way! My prayers to Miyas family! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Miya’s Law requires background checks on all employees at apt complexes. The Miya Marcano Foundation supports families of missing persons.

When you move into an apartment, the first thing you do is change the locks. Ring cameras, digital locks because it tells you when people enter or when your door was opened, door and window sensors, and a gun. It’s so important that women are able to protect themselves these days.

This video didn’t touch on how the family took matters into their own hands enough. They did not back down. They followed him and found him with her blanket too

Same thing happened to my cousin, in Darlington SC.
She was 18, recently graduated high school and was getting ready to head to college.
A maintenence man, who had been fired, went in, raped her and slashed her neck.
The apartment complex claimed they forgot to take his keys back.
My cousin's grandmother was the one who had to find her that way.
It was a horrible nightmare for the family and I just remember being in shock and numb for about a month.
Im so sorry this happened to this beautiful young lady. I pray her family has found some kind of peace. I also hope they sued the complex.
My cousin most definitely did sue and she won, but it still made no difference to her heart. She's still heartbroken and has never gotten over her daughters murder.

Miya, was such a beautiful young woman, gorgeous eyes, stunning smile, she had her whole life ahead of her, but was stolen from her family and friends by an animal. Condolences to her family, friends and all who loved her. May she be Resting in Peace. Fly high Miya.

These apartment complex people always hire strange men not checking their background or anything

My first stalker happened when I was 17. He held the door open; I glanced, smiled, and said thank you. He followed me home. He was then leaving letters on my mother's car. One night standing across the street of our home at night, watching me pack the car. He was arrested after following my little sister and I to a McDonald's. I did receive a restraining order but not before I was intimidated by police officers that I had done something to make him misinterpret my interests. I was 17, he was 56. RIP, Miya ♡

The crazy thing is that there’s probably some guy watching this right now who is exhibiting this same behavior with a woman who has rejected him. This happens a lot more than you think. So many men struggle with accepting rejection. It’s like they set their sights on a woman and she becomes their property even if she doesn’t even know him. It’s crazy. This guy was handsome, he could’ve gotten a girlfriend fairly easily, but he saw her as his for some reason. He didn’t even know her. Smh. It’s sickening.

I lost my child by murder, and all I focus on is the dark side of people and how you NEVER know. the days aren't the same after a loved one is ripped from you. Stay strong guys. Love and Light. Thank you guys for highlighting this. Will share.💔

I have cameras set up inside and outside, my kids know that no friends are allowed over while im not home and they have to have my permission even when i am home. Friend visits are only those that i truly know. And you know i hold my 2nd ammendment close to heart. This momma bear doesn't mess around!

I am a father to a beautiful 12 year old and every time I hear of a young girl disappearing and killed and scares me deeply cuz we now live in a world of hate, craziness, psychos, just bad ppl and we just gotta do what we can to protect our kids.

They couldn't afford to do a proper background check? Especially knowing that the person you hire will have a key to every apartment in the complex? That cost a family their daughter.
