Yesterday I was going to buy a used camera. When I asked the seller why he was selling it, he replied that he decided to upgrade to a7S III, and when I asked about overheating, he began to stutter and be reluctant to talk about it. In general, he seemed suspicious to me and I did not buy. When I got back, I started reading reviews on B&H and Amazon and saw a bunch of negative reviews about overheating. Thank you for this video.

Now I am 100% sure that I will not take this camera. When I imagine that at the wedding it turns off at the most crucial moment, I feel bad :)))

Hi how r u Mr. Malloch?
Last month I went for a photoshoot. There I shot 2 hours, I haven't face any overheating issue. I'm from Bangladesh and it's a tropical country but we're now end of the winter season. Then it was 19*C. Interesting part is I shot uncompressed raw. I shot almost 350 shots. But I noticed still 52% battery was remain. Come on I love my a7iv. Now i'm saving money to get a 200-600. Cause my father told me he won't pay for my lens cause he bought me a7iv.. I watch your videos. A fan here ♥

Hi Stefan I can’t wait for you to review the Sony 70-200 f2.8 II even if I already own the lens. I would like to have your POV with the TC2.0 compare to the 100-400. I personally one the TC1.4 for close wildlife😉

For those saying there are no overheating issues, there absolutely are. I had the camera shut down on me twice a few weeks ago, once after 10 minutes and once after about 30 minutes. I was shooting 4K 25p, in a very hot environment (the Australian Outback)- 40+ degrees. And yes the screen was open and the temp was set to high... I've shot with other hybrids in similar conditions, the Panasonic GH5 etc and not had overheating issues. The images are beautiful though. The stuff I did get is gorgeous... and the autofocus is incredibly accurate, so although I'm not happy about it, what do you do.

I heard the warnings so I bought a FX30 instead for work, which has been very reliable. But I thought I might be able to use a A74 for short B-roll filming as the price is quite good. But now I've seen it overheat myself, even just browsing the menu's I'm going to have to return it. I can accept it not being able to record 2hr of 4K in the heat, but if it can't display the menus without shutting down then that's really no good.

Appreciate the tips. I have used Sony for a LONG time, dating back to SD prosumer video cameras for weddings. On the camera side...I've had A5xxx or A6xxx's, now I have the A7C and A7IV...they've ALL been overheat pia's. I love Sony's ability but the heat problem is a real mfer. I've looked at the FX3 as a change but 4k bucks...damn...for a youtube channel that isn't focused on video but more on automotive, yet looking for quality, that's a tough sell.

There is an issue. Setting to high temp does help but it can still overheat, especially if you use an external monitor.

Hey stef you may be able to answer this.. we know the a7SIII has the best 1080 down sampled from 4K… Is the 1080 on the IV downsampled as well from something?

Hi there, I upgrade from the a7III to a7IV recently and within the first few days of setting up the new a7IV, it started to BURN my hand and turn itself off when I was playing around in the menu settings. 😭 After following yours and other people's tips, I was able to get the body to not burn, but it still gets EXTREMELY HOT for literally just in the menu and tweaking settings (not taking photos or videos at all) which is still very concerning.... dropped it off at local sony repair center 2 weeks ago, so I guess RIP my $3600CAD for upgrading and not being able to use my new camera at all 🥲literally only took like 2 photos with it

Question.... I had an overheating issue and the file saved as .rsv file extension. I didn't notice until I got home from a client video shoot. Is there any way to covert it back to mo4?

Just got mine and it was overheating after 20 minutes of just scrolling through the menu...not even recording. It's actually warm to the touch. I followed your tips, now I just have to keep an eye on it. Super disappointing.

What about a battery grip? A lot of the heat comes from the batteries.
