It feels a bit like looking at aerial footage of Chernobyl’s Reactor 4, but minus the terror of free flowing radiation.

Let’s understand this, Beirut’s government/s put 2.75 kt (5, 500, 000 pounds) of dangerous explosives in a port warehouse, since 2014 in the middle of town. Who’d thunk anything could have happened?

I wonder what happens to that grain elevator? Can they rebuilt it or it gets torn down?

A little context would help. Any drone footage or photos of before?
Yeah, its really bad, but see how it once looked helps quantify that.

Can this incompetence be forgiven? Heart breaking to see.

very neat and tidy....isn't there quite a lot of missing rubble for a blast that big? buildings that were kilometres away were damaged, surely so near the centre there should be more flattened pulverised rubble to be seen?

My theory: Russian oligarch sends 2 mil in fertilizer to East African country to make money. An issue on board during shipping forced ship to port in Lebanon. Lebanese government seizes cargo because it’s highly volatile and plus they can legally do it (but in reality because of its agricultural benefits that Lebanon needed plus it’s just sheer value of at least 1.5 mil usd). Oligarch abandoned shipment immediately because it’s nothing for him. Lebanese government stores materials in dumb place. Lack of bureaucracy and planning in the years leads to its idle. Then a random fire started due to local welding in the port caused the disastrous.
