Is Wife Beating Allowed in Islam? | Mufti Menk

"Aisha (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (Muhammad - Pbuh), may Allah bless him, never beat anyone with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, but only, in the case when he had been fighting in the cause of Allah ..." (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 4296)

The meaning of the above is that he never hit anyone, no matter who it was, except in a war against the enemy (and that was between men).

The Prophet (Pbuh) said:
"The best among you is the one who is the best towards his wife"
Hadith - Muslim, #3466

On the contrary it is actually restricting men from beating women (which in the times of prophet mohammad (May peace be upon him) was a common act)
So the Quran says you can only tap her with a miswak just to draw the wife’s attention not to hurt her or cause pain
As an example suppose you are working on your laptop and your wife asks you, “Honey, do you remember where I kept my purse?”
But as you are working you are not listening to anything else so you don’t respond then your wife taps your shoulder and then asks you the question again.
And the part of the miswak used to clean your teeth is actually softer than your hands
So your wife obviously is not gonna mind you doing that let alone get hurt
You can even do that in an affectionate way

But please see what the Bible says - Deuteronomy, Chapter 20, Verse 11 and 12-  11.“When  men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
12. Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her."
Not only beating, but to cut off the wife's hand, that too for what? For saving the life of the husband!
