Blackbeard sacrificed his daughter to live only to die a terrible death, Barbossa sacrificed his life to save his daughter and was remembered as the best pirate that ever lived

It’s what Blackbeard SHOULD have done. Good play by Jack.

I love how so many people thought Jack was lying so many times, even though he was telling them the truth. In this scene though, we see him put the tear in his right hand, and it stays there. He then tells a lie, knowing they'll think it's the truth.

Pure perfection!

If he had shown a moment of selflessness and tried to save his daughter, he would have lived.

In a world without gold we might have been heroes.

Knowing Jack Sparrow, he wouldn't be dumb enough to force Blackbeard to drink the chalice without the tear. That's why he swapped it.

To quote a certain action-adventure film starring Harrison Ford and Sean Connery, "He chose... poorly."

This is why I love Jack as a character so much
He not only has the brains and guts to outsmart basicly anyone, but he is also clever enough to constantly hide behind a facade so you won't even know he's tricking you

In my opinion blackbeard has one of the most graphic deaths in pirates of the Caribbean series

Blackbeard tried to kill his daughter, his own blood. And he calls Jack a devil. It's actually the other way around mate.

... I don't know about Jack, but watching her father get LITERALLY ripped to shreds by water... that is traumatizing

The thing about this is Blackbeard said that Quartermaster predicted his death as being stabbed by a one legged man, he instead died by the Fountain since he didn't drink the chalice with the tear, but it's probably because Quartermaster saw the last fatal wound which WOULD kill him before death but couldn't see the fountain because of it's mystical powers

1:10 Anyone notice that they used the ost from Dead Man's Chest where Jack was trick by Elisabeth before being eaten by the Kraken?

For anyone questioning whether Jack really did mix up the chalices or had deliberately planned out the outcome all along...

Nothing happens in between those two points that would’ve realistically caused Jack to mix up the two chalices (e.g. someone else trying to take the chalices from him and him fighting to get them back), plus it’s worth noting that a primary theme of the POTC movies is that Jack is smarter than he seems at first glance. Based on that, as well as Jack’s expression @2:14-2:16, it’s safe to conclude that Jack knew what he was doing and had knowingly lied about which chalice had the tear. Blackbeard was too far gone to sacrifice his own life for another, even his own daughter, but Jack was well aware of that and planned accordingly, using Blackbeard’s own selfishness against him and saving Angelica in the process.

Black Beard's death reminds me of Mother Gothel's death in Tangled. Both are sociopaths who are ready to do anything in their power to remain young forever at the mercy of other lives. In this case to his own daughter and in Tangled to Rapunzel being locked up her entire life. Jack Sparrow and Flynn Rider may be thieves but heroes. Both villains finally see the time reverse and end up in ashes for their villainy. Both films were released at the same time.
