I think this is rather a C2 vocabulary exam:) I answered 9 out of 12 correctly, but only by intuition.

As a native British English speaker I was relieved, rather than proud, to score 12, but I was surprised by the pronunciation of “taut” in Q10 sounding like “tout” when I would say it like “taught”, rhyming with “ought” and “bought”; plus “respite” in Q12 sounding like “respit” when I would say it rhyming with “spite” or “fight”.

Im a native English speaker and generally pretty good at English, and even I only got 8/12. The words in this test vary wildly in how often they’re used, and some of these words I’ve never heard at all. This is definitely a hard test, and if you got 11 or 12 you’re probably better than most native speakers.

Regarding Q 10: "taut" is pronounce the same as "taught". The pronunciation given in the video is actually the word "tout", which means to solicit support for something.

As an old English speaker I did the quiz for fun. All correct. I was impressed by many of the comments in their use of English. The quizmaster did mispronounce several words from an English (as opposed to American) perspective.

I was only able to answer three of the questions correctly, but it was interesting to learn so many new words

Got 11 out of 12 right, but mostly not because I knew the word, but because I was able to eliminate the 3 incorrect answers. (knowing French, Latin, and a little Greek definitely helped). So most of the words I got right are not in my passive, let alone my active vocabulary.

12/12 as a non-native speaker who's never been to an English-speaking country. I'm a native speaker in Italian and German and had Latin in school, though. Those helped A LOT here, it almost seemed a test about Latin-derived, higher-education vocabulary than "actual" English I hear and see on the Net.

I have a C1 CEFR certificate but majority of these words were unfamiliar to me . Thx anyway I am learning a lot of new words that i have never seen before, in your channel.

You could argue that sovereignty and freedom aren't quite synonyms as there's somewhat of a distinction between the two. I got 11 btw (I'm native English speaker btw 😬😬)

I always found these quizzes inexplicably easy, probably because those words mostly derive from latin, just like italian (my primary language). 11/12, the last one stomped me.

2:10 Q5 included the indefinite article "an, " which gave away that only the two answers beginning with vowels could be correct.

I got the last three wrong. The other answers were intuitive for me because the words have a strong similarity with those of the same meaning used in my language 🇮🇹 ("true friends"). Thanks for your help.

100% correct without pausing or breaking a sweat. I fear for civilization that these words are such a challenge for many native speakers. Schools stopped teaching decades ago.

Got 12/12 and wished it would move along a bit faster. Being a voracious reader and professional writer helps a lot. Reading is the key to learning for most people and I wish more people would do more of it.

I estimate my level somewhere between C1 and C2, although I've never been formally tested. Got 10/12, but I can't say I was very confident in some of the correct answers. After years of learning, there is still so much left to learn...

Whenever people ask me what is my English level, I say b2/c1, but closer to c1 (at least my vocabulary) and this test proved it. I got 10 correct and what’s important, I was 100% sure about them. However 1 test is not an indicator of your level, because we learners or at least I personally am learning words in a kinda haphazard manner i.e i learn 90% of the words that I encounter, irrespectively of whether it’s a c2 word or b2, just learn. Thereby all people who have reached c1 know some words that their counterparts don’t. All that to say in one test you can get 12/12, in another 6/12.

I recently got my C1 Certificate (I scored C2 but I payed for C1). Then out of the blue, youtube suggests this site for me ( I never ever watched anything remotely close to langue learning or speaking English). Yet, this channel has been recommended. This is more than scary.

I am a native English speaker and very familiar with all these words (scored 100%). When I was young, a strong vocabulary was promoted in our public schools, and I was blessed to learn words like these which led to more precise communication and better understanding. It makes me sad to realize that many who have not had this advantage cannot now enjoy the wisdom and experience recorded in great works of literature and historical documents. Kudos to those who are eager to expand their vocabularies! They lay a good foundation for connecting to the past and unlocking the future.
