Fifty Wolves Howling

It starts with a trio and ends with a roar 50 wolves strong.

Nikai (front), Zephyr, and Alawa (on the rock) are captive-born Canadian/Rocky Mountain gray wolves at the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC), a 501c3 non-profit organization, in South Salem, NY. The siblings are 'ambassador wolves' at the WCC that help teach the public about wolves and their vital role in the environment.

I once volunteered as a feeder -- and wolf howl tour guide (following the group rather than leading) -- at the Wild Canid Survival and Research Center (WCSRC) located outside of St. Louis County in Missouri, located on a massive tract of land that was owned by Washington University. This was 35 years ago. I was onsite 2-3 days per week, during the years I was attending college and working part time thus time available and wolves, from a very young age, my favorite animal. What I experienced and witnessed there at the WCSRC was incredible. Went on to become a medical scientist, but also am a formally trained naturalist and specialized in northern latitude ecosystems' flora and fauna, primarily due to my fascination with and knowledge of wolves. Having lived in Alaska for many years and an avid outdoorsman, I am proud to say I have not only seen but had markedly close encounters with wolves in wildernesses here, including packs of wolves, and pairs as well as single wolves, once at point blank range. The howl of a wild wolf is a special treat. Seeing them appear at close range from out in the darkness, their yellow eyes the only thing visible, is quite the unnerving yet exhilerating experience, especially in the middle of nowhere with the closest road more than 200 miles away and no one but oneself (and wife) to experience it.

This drove some of my cats nuts, but I loved it. Just wish I could have listened at a higher volume! Awesome video.

Yup. That is my dog. I swear he is a wolfdog. Looks exactly the same as the white wolves in this video. He howls every time he hears the icecream truck. That was the first time I ever heard him howl.

I wish I could still foster dogs. My ex gf and I did it for 4 yrs until we lost the house. Not being able to Foster those dogs anymore actually hurt worse than losing the house itself! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for everything that y'all do and helping these wolves! May God bless you all

If I hear this, I would howl with them.
