Today we go on a quest to find a pair of subadult Phidippus audax, or Bold Jumping Spiders! We sure found plenty of babies (slings), but the older ones proved to be pretty difficult...

What I love about jumping spiders is how curious and attentive they are. When you move your fingers close they will turn towards them and look at it. Other spiders just sit in their corner, not reacting at all.

it's REALLY hard not to anthropomorphize these things. Their head and body movements combined with their habit of making eye contact gives a really strong appearance of awareness.

I loved this video. Our 1800's brick home has tons of these. I believe the grandchildren will love this next year. We already raise monarchs but adding jumping spiders will be extra fun!
