We love jumping spiders. And this one is extremely special! Check out the regal jumping spider @LifesWildAdventures and I stumbled upon on our search for the red widow spider!

Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.

I saw a jumping spider on my truck earlier today. I leaned over and said "What's up dude?" and then it jumped on me. 😂

I love how jumping spiders, more than any other spiders, really look AT you, and you can see them watching and studying you.

I don't disagree with keeping jumpers that you can find on the yard, but keeping one which was clearly taking care of a nest with eggs is a "no-no" in my book...

It’s a shame they don’t live longer, they are such marvelous little creatures!

Many years ago, I was sitting at a picnic table when I saw a tiny spider on the other side of the table. I'm not afraid of them, so I watched it. That little spider walked all the way over to me, reared up, and looked at me. I didn't know what it might do, so I got it on a leaf or something and put it back on the other side of the table, and it walked right back over to me and reared up and looked at me again. I never mentioned it to anyone, because how do you tell someone that you had a real meeting with a spider without sounding like a lunatic? That's how it felt. It had to be a jumping spider, though I've never heard of them until recently. That experience stayed with me all these years, and now it's made me want a jumping spider of my own.

You described it perfectly "they are interactive". Generally I do not like spiders because of their "erratic" behaviour, but jumpers are so different. And as there will always be insects in your home, I always let the jumpers stay to keep other insects away.

Please don't make her bite you, she doesn't deserve that stress, and I really hope you took her back to her egg sac

One of my favorite parts about working in my garden is interacting with these little guys. I love how they actually look at you - it’s not too often that you get that level of connection with a bug lol

I was cutting the grass at work and saw a regal larger than this one on the metal fence post just chilling. I live in central Florida. I had never seen one of these spiders before and I decided to try and feed her. I walked through the grass until a large green grasshopper revealed itself to me and then I caught it. The grasshopper was a bit bigger than the spider and as I approached the regal on the fence with the grasshopper between my fingers, she leapt off the fence and latched onto the grasshopper. The impact of her fangs penetrating the grasshopper literally splattered a bit of the grasshopper's blood on my hand and I was in disbelief. I took her home and kept her for over a year and held her every single day. She laid eggs and I released all of the babies in my yard. To this day in the summer I can walk outside and find regals and I am pretty sure they are the descendants of my very first one. It was a sad day when she passed but the impact this animal had on me was incredible.

I can't get over how beautiful all of the jumping spiders are. I grew up in south Florida and had been taught by my mother to never kill or harm jumping spiders so they always had free reign in my room. I didn't know how magnificently gorgeous they were. I love them still, they are one of the world's best treasures. I caught many insects and lizards and raised a tadpole until he became a small frog, then released him. It was fun to watch him or her go through the stages of growing into a 🐸 frog. I believe the world is blessed by the smaller species that inhabit our planet and we still have a long way to go in our understanding of their true nature.

So adorable! I didn’t know such large jumping spiders existed. Don’t make it bite you, though. She doesn’t need to be made to feel threatened by you.

Love how chill that big boy was, even as you grabbed for it.

My son said that Regal Jumping Spiders are the puppies of the spider world and I think about that every time I see one. I love them 😂❤

Thanks for the fun video, Master Spencer.
Jumping spiders are so intriguing to watch. The way they so obviously notice and observe people—there aren’t a lot of invertebrates that you feel are studying you as much as you are studying them.

My youngest daughter has fallen in love with jumping spiders and has several as pets now. She would love that one. Wow, is it big!

I didn't know anything about jumping spiders for most of my life and while I don't have arachnophobia, I still tend to keep my distance. My apartment tends to get a few types of spiders fairly regularly. When I found a smaller wolf spider, I actually let it stay because it hunted the other ones and kept the others under control. Sorry, I'm off topic a bit :D
One day I found a jumper. She was a small thing, but man she was adorable. I'd never thought that about a spider in my life until that moment. I turned my head and it was on the back of my chair. I jumped from the shock, but it didn't move at all. When I noticed how cute it was, I got closer and it wasn't aggressive in any way. I put my hand out to let it crawl into my hand and just let it roam around for a bit. It was a beautiful bonding moment and I loved her so much. I was just so surprised how friendly she was, especially being in the wild and never really having contact with humans. (she was really young!)
