I have two of them, and they are so good that I have no reason to buy newer equipment. Thanks for recognizing this fantastic camera: rugged, capable, and feels better to hold than any other camera I’ve ever known. And my favorite lens is the 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro.

Mine (paired with my Lumix GX-7) is my main workhorse for gig and music photography, and it's ideal for me in that environment (regardless of what the nay-sayers claim). It 100% is more than capable in low-light and higher ISO situations, good enough for the results I get to exhibit and sell.

The E-M1ii is my second m43 and I can't say enough good about it and for all of the reasons you stated. Fun fact: Today (8/16/24) Amazon still sells this camera brand new, body only for $1600 UDS ($2400 Aus Dlrs). It is truly perfect in every way.

I went to a local Samy's Camera here in Pasadena, CA and they had in their used cabinet a perfect 10/10 condition EM-1 Mk. II WITH the battery grip, 2 batteries, and all the original accessories (flash unit, original charger etc) with only a few thousand shutter clicks on it for just $600 USD. Add to that they had a 9/10 condition Olympus 25mm f1.8 for $150 more and I walked out with a *killer* camera for a lot cheaper than I thought they were available for. I was mostly an APS-C Sony & Fuji shooter previously, and I always wanted to try an OM-D, and when this opportunity presented itself I couldn't pass it up. The E-M1.II still feels and shoots exactly like a camera from 2024 today. Maybe the EVF is a little standard looking today, (just 2.3m-dot) but it still gets bright, and the performance is SO snappy, so immediate, you WANT to use it. I'm also 6'4" with pretty large hands and I can say the balance of size and weight of the E-M1.II is flawless, easily the best handling and feeling camera I've ever used period. I picked up the 12-40 2.8 Pro, 17mm and 45mm f1.8's all together for about $750 more total and I'm basically set for anything I could want to do with it for total price of just about the cost of a brand new enthusiast-level body today. No joke, if you see one of these in great condition for a great price, don't sleep on it. It's a camera you must own at least once just for the experience even if it doesn't stick as your everyday shooter. I'm seeing body-only listings for as little as $450 USD these days. (PS the 12-40 2.8 Pro is the one single lens to own for this camera. Otherwise either the 17mm 1.8 will be the next best single lens for how absurdly cheap you can get them used and how versatile 35mm is on its own.)

The EM1 Mk ii really is a beast! I just got a great deal on one to compliment my EM5 Mk ii. Probably the best value used micro four thirds camera at the moment! Build like a tank, and blazing fast!

Hi Grant
You're right about the combo. I bought mine secondhand - exactly the kit you mentioned: E-M1 II and 12-40/2.8 PRO - and never looked back. Unbelievable package where you have everything you really need and more. Quality build. Solid feel. Incredible optics. Great ergonomics. Good balance. Love the EVF. With this kit, I can't see any point in moving upscale except to hunt down a second companion lens. I was thinking of the 40-150/2.8 PRO but damn, the cost! My compromise would be a 75/1.8 so I can keep carrying light.
Only one fly in the ointment - one of the rubber flaps has torn off and I'm not sure how expensive it is to get this replaced.

I use the same combo you’re talking about. Great results every time. 🎉

As well as the headline featues you mention like the stabe, the AF, video, handling etc., i love a couple of things such as showing the proper battery%, not just a graphic bar, the focal length of the attached lens or your zoom level.

It is defo the Goldilocks of the m43 world, especially in the Em/Om range!

The Olympus / OM Systems jpegs are great. The E-M1 series are terrific cameras, for the reasons you mention. The OM-1 is an amazing camera, too. The E-M1 mk II and mk III are great holiday gift options at a lower price point. The OM-5 is smaller but has the capabilities of most of the E-M1 mk II and III features.

I can't speak highly enough about this camera. I upgraded from the Mk1 and the difference, for me, is amazing. At last I'd found a camera with an EVF refresh rate that could cope with fast action sports (motorcycle short circuit racing). As you say, the handing and all-weather capability are great features, as is the much improved battery life. The PRO lenses are stunning too. I now use the 40-150 f2.8 PRO (and the matched 1.4x TC) and the 12-40 f2.8 PRO at the circuit as my complete kit. I even sold my 100-400 Pana-Leica and haven't missed it.

Thanks so much for this informative video! I have the OMD EM10 Mark iii but you've convinced me to trade up when I find a good used one. I also wanted to compliment your video quality - it's the best lighting and color I've seen on any of the thousands of photography videos. If you'd be willing to share your set-up - lighting and cameras - I'd be very grateful. Thank you again!

Oh yes, forgot to mention. I bought my kit in Malaysia: MYR2, 250 for body and MYR2, 500 for the lens. That works out to be MYR4, 750, which is around AUD 1, 400, which is more or less what the same kit would have cost in Melbourne. That's a bloody bargain, if you ask me. I don't expect to change this combo for anything else for a foreseeable future. And don't get me started on Full-Frame

Goodness! I bought an EM-1 MK II in 2019 w/ 1100 actuations on it, then bought a camera battery grip, flash, extra batteries and several non-pro lenses and have not taken 25 pictures with it. I bought into the Fuji system recently and came to this video to see what I was potentially selling. #NoSale

Hello, Olympus is familiar to me, I have had their digital cameras for almost 20 years... Last Saturday the new OM1 MarkII came into my house (having the OM5 gave me the opportunity to try the Live ND and High Resolution modes, tools perfect for the landscape, obtaining better results than sensors that double their size).
I can assure you that there is a leap in image quality compared to that of my OM5 (equivalent to that of the OM1 MarkII as it shares the sensor and processor).
Additionally, the new GND filter is great and, like the Live ND, we get an increase in tonal range. The high resolution at 14 bits is another success (for landscape). What can I say... it has an exceptional design inside and out.

Hi nice post. I shoot orchids, wildflowers, of which some can be quite small (1cm x 2 cm), although some larger. Would this camera suit this sort of photography? If so which lens/es would u recommend? Can it do focus bracketing/stacking if I use tripod? thx
