The discussion ignores the fact that in Sweden there is also a 31% social security tax that the employer pays on your salary before it is paid out to you gross - this could otherwise be paid to the employee or the company could hire more workers. Also VAT is 25% on most goods.

Haha, as a Swede living in the Ivory Coast, interesting video! The 60% rate in the Ivory Coast is the very top rate marginal income tax, almost nobody pays that. And corporate taxes in the Ivory Coast are quite low, 2%-4% of revenue for small businesses. And total tax out of GDP is also reasonable at 17.4%, much lower than Western Europe.
Ivory Coast has also been one of the fastest growing countries in the world over the last 10 years, really fascinating place with lots of opportunities.

But everybody always tells us that those high-tax, high-suicide Scandinavian countries are THE happiest places on Earth and we should all want to give our money away to live in ice-cold places that are dark for months at a time.

As a Danish-Italian I do love Denmark and the Danish culture, but the government and its taxes are insane. I have even experienced that the tax authority dreamed up taxes from a company, I didn't had any activity - because I didn't close it correctly. I fought them for years and contacted the tax minister and the PM's office. But it helped, when I threatened them with a journalist, then they admitted their mistake and apologized - what never happens.

I work every day on my mission to escape Denmark and find Zero Tax Zen.

In Belgium you even pay a tax every year for the amount of KW your solar panel produce (they call it prosumer tarif)and another one for sending electricity you produce in your local grid (they call it transport tax) i'm serious. It's ridiculous they should pay us for the electricity we send to the local grid but instead they force us to pay them.

surprised you didn't mention France. The French say that France is the most taxed country in the world, but I think it is second behind Denmark, overall. Bit like your comments on Sweden, I would say the benefits of enjoying a French lifestyle count for a lot, but again, notice how many successful, I mean really successful, French businessmen you meet. They are nearly always resident outside of France!

It dosent matter if you pay 0% or 99% in taxes... all that matters is how much money you have left over once everything is paid for and what you can do with that money. I have heard Americans who moved to Sweden and said that their salaries were 3x back in US, yet they have more money left over here in Sweden. Staring blindly at the tax-rate is flawed.

you compared and preferred Sweden to Denmark, well I have to strongly disagree! Denmark is one of the safest countries in the world, which Sweden isn't the best.
