Abram Chasins - Speaking of Pianists

This pandemic pianist's version of a Rick Mercer rant involves a chapter entitled, The Expendables, from Abram Chasins' classic book, Speaking of Pianists (1957). The world may be a mad, chaotic mess, in which artists are expendable, however, with this little book in hand, I am well-armed, for, as Chasins writes, when the artists lose faith, "we all pay a price." Hold to your high standards and your passions, no matter what!🥰

Chasins certainly had not only the wisdom and insight to see and understand what was going on around him, but also a remarkable ability to write profoundly about it. Powerful words. I hope someone will write a biography of Abram Chasins someday. He is one of those people who is known, but has been overlooked and unjustly neglected.
