Wynn Handman, the American Place Theatre Co-Founder and Beloved Teacher to the Top Stage and Screen Stars Dies from COVID-19 at the age of 97.

April 2020 - Sad news to report from the world of theatre and the stage. Wynn Handman, founder of the American Place theatre, the Off Broadway non-profit company that produced a young playwright named Sam Shepard and a large cast of house-hold names like actors as Dustin Hoffman, Rául Juliá, Faye Dunaway, John Leguizamo and Robert de Niro early in their careers, died of complications from the coronavirus on Saturday, April 11, at his home in New York City at the age of 97.

Last year at the Tribeca Film Festival, NYC VIBE was on the red carpet for the debut of a documentary on Wynn at which many of his students were on hand to share in the celebration and talk about their beloved teacher.

Handman’s impact as an acting teacher was a life changer for his students which included Alec Baldwin, Mia Farrow, Allison Janney, Christopher Walken, Denzel Washington, Susan Lucci and Burt Reynolds, over a 60 plus year career.
